Tamiya 74510 Spray-Work System HG Triger-Type Airbrush

Hi all at FSM,

I’m quite new to modelling and was wondering if anybody had any thoughts on this airbrush as I’m mostly wanting to build auto’s and motorbikes.
I have made two of revells custom choppers using a brush and the outcome was not too bad, but was looking to get a better finish on the models that I build in the future.
Also, what paint is the best for this type or other types of airbrushes if recommended.
I have came across a website that has a full set of tamiya X and XF paint for £83.00 and thought this would be handy rather than trailing to the model shop every time I needed paint.

I’ve got this modelling bug since my wife bought me the Tamiya Porsche Carrera GT, I have not started this one yet as I want to take time in getting it right and looking good, with a good airbrush and paint.

Hope I don’t sound too much of a newbie but would like to get into modelling and be able to at least half the results you’s guys get.

All the best

The 74510 looks to be quite a decent brush, although there isn’t exactly loads in the way of reviews on it, here is one I found; http://www.missing-lynx.com/reviews/other/tamair/tamair.htm

Assuming you are from the UK, the commonly available quality brushes appear to be Badger & Iwata, with Harder & Steenbeck also being available from some outlets. Although the Tamiya looks like a decent enough brush, how easy are parts to get for it in the UK? I would also think that the whole “pistol grip” affair may end up being more of a hindrance than a help as you become more confident with the brush.

Regards the full paint set you mention, yes it would be handy, but I would imagine that you will end up with a considerable number of colours that you will not use?

If you are also shopping about for a compressor, I would have a look at the Revell 39138 “Master Class” comressor, it has an air tank, is well built & is reasonably quiet. It is currently available @ £175 here;

Which is a pretty good deal.

Good luck.

Thanks Milairjunkie,

You are probably right about having paints that I probably wouldn’t use and also about the AB, I thought with it having a trigger / pistol grip, it would be more easier to spray larger areas such as car bodies and fairings on motorbikes. I had never thought about parts as the AB in question was selling on an ebay shop for £90.

I have been to wonderland and its a great model shop, its not to far from where I live, thats were I got my previous models. I’m sure that the guys at the shop told me about the compressor that you mentioned and they told and showed me the aztec AB’s that they have.

Thanks for the advice Milairkunkie it was much appreciated.
