Ok Tamiya… I’ve put up with your 1/48th US Infantrymen being only 5 feet tall, and your aircrew being 6 feet tall (even the Japanese ones), while buyiing two of your over-priced Dueces and a Kublewagen… So now I must ask…
They were going real strong for awhile a lot of kits coming out,but now they seemed to have stopped, and as Hans brings out, besides the jeep there are some kits just crying to be put out in 1/48.Many have pointed to their Italian and Japanese subjects,i for one would love to see some modern or a T-34/85 and the ISU-1 2 3 + 122+152 jagdtiger elefant and so forth.
It’s also a top notch little kit. Light years ahead of the old Bandai kit, and dirt cheap comparably (the Frog Fuman releases of the Bandai Jeep were around $25, the whole Tamiya set is like $11-15 when using the hobby Lobby coupon).
Just for the info: There’s a company getting ready to come out with a complete conversion kit to build a 1/24th scale SAS Jeep. And maybe an LRDG conversion right behind it as well
I think it is pretty impressive how a few years ago, 1/48th armor was pretty much a dead field. All that was around was the old Bandai or Aurora kits and a handfull of Monogram snap tites when you could find on Ebay. Then Tamiya jumpe din with both feet, and basicly started a whole new market there. Now they have a substantial line and other companies are jumping in as well.
Hans, if you can’t find the Tamiya 1/48 jeep the Hasagawa jeep is still available in at least 2 versions. One is a standard old jeep with a machinegun option, 2 crew figs, and i think 3 decal options. Its HSG 36012 and retails for around $26.00. The other one is an airfield “Follow Me” jeep and sells for the same amount. Its HSG 36011. Either the Hasa. or Tamiya should build up really nice. Hope that helps. RickM
I’ve seen the prototype pieces made from resin, and they all looked very nice. Kinda like the old Tamiya kit on steroids. From what I gather there’s going to be some leeway in the way the Jeep is setup (many of the SAS Jeeps were configured differently), and some other errors made in the original are corrected. There is no known price yet, and I’m not really sure I should tell his name (he’s well known in big scale circles). I’m more or less interested in doing a couple big scale LRDG’s (both Ford & Chevy trucks), and that’s how we came into contact. I also think down the road there may be something planned for the German groups, as I took it that there was a hint.
I know that it was quite an undertaking to just make the molds alone, and from what I heard the last time we touched base that was what he was working on at the time. Should be getting close by now as it’s been six months. I’ll send him an email to see if a link is OK
one is the black dog http://www.blackdog.cz/ and the other is http://www.hauler.cz/ black dog is all resin, and very nice but the rear gear is a single piece of the gear piled high. the Hauler is part resin and part photo etch and looks alot like the Tamiya 1/35 gear a much “neater” pile of gear. Hauler has nice photo etch sand channels, Black dogs are molded into the rear with tires etc {also available alone}.
Gaso Line and darthmoor both have figures for the SAS Jeeps
I mostly model in 1/48 now, and would like to point out Tamiya has come out with a bunch of new kits including the TILLY, MARDER, a German truck,
