Tamiya 1/48 StuG III Ausf. G: Calling her DONE! (10/07/11)

Your abilities continue to accelerate Ben. !http://th107.photobucket.com/albums/m303/smokesomekill/Comments-Smileys/th_dragster.gif

I see some very minor dings but nothing worth mentioning.

And yes, very well executed !http://th585.photobucket.com/albums/ss292/smileysandphotos/smileys/th_728_guillotine.gif

… though even the best laid plans can get messy.

Cheers DM - I want some more smilies!

It turned out pretty well but if you have noticed anything that I’ve done wrong no matter how minor (apart from the MG Shield as that’s been covered) please tell me so it won’t hapen again.

I want to be able to build things like that Jumbo Shermie of yours some day so I need to know where I’m going wrong [;)]

Thanks buddy,

Ben [t$t]

OK, you asked.

I NEVER mean to dampen anyones’ enthusiasm so ( like I said) just some little !http://th276.photobucket.com/albums/kk25/Empath2008/Blinkies/Blinkies%20for%20fun%20all%20rated%20G/th_058.gifbugs here.

I’ve not built this particular version so I haven’t done any extensive research on the subject.

So, just based on casual observation only; here is what I meant.

  1. The restraints holding the fire extinguisher should be the same color as the rest of the vehicle.

  2. The spare towing devices mounted on !http://th280.photobucket.com/albums/kk171/relffehcs/th_Portalized_Smiley.gifboth sides (on the fenders) should not be displaying any mold marks.

  3. Where the vertical front of the hull meets the horizontal front plate there should be a weld representation between the two apparent lines of assembly…across & below the notex light.

  4. Maybe not apparent in 1/48 scale but in 1/35 there should be some visible casting texture on the main gun mantlet. If it’s there, good… but I can’t see it.

  5. The extra “cheek” armor on the commanders station should fit more, how to say it… “snug” against the cupola housing. Check below.

  1. A rather LARGE ejector pin !http://th130.photobucket.com/albums/p280/zerglin/Smileys/th_Flip.gifmark on the backside of the MG shield. Again, check below.

Always research your build “beyond belief”

…before plunging in.

Hey DM,

That’s great buddy - thanks. I am always hoping to improve every new build over my last one - obviously [;)] and this is the stuff that needs to be pointed out to me.

Thanks for the links btw. ‘Making’ visual weld beads is something I’ve been looking into and I hope to add a lot of this ‘minor’ stuff into all future builds as it’s what modellers like yourself are looking out for.

Re the MG shield: I know I mentioned the fact that it isn’t correct as it’s standing up on it’s own and I’m now told it shouldn’t do that. Unfortunately the one piece hatch moulding was already glued into place and I didn’t fancy doing a butchers job on it!

If you look at my ‘it’s complete’ post on page 3(?) I mentioned the EP hole on the inside of the MG shield in the text above that photo and named it as something to be remedied asap. This weekend I’ll be sorting that and stretching some sprue for the twin antennae.

Thanks again DM,

Kind regards,

Ben [t$t]
