This model represents one of the Assault Guns deployed by Germany during Operation Barbarossa, Eastern Front, 1941. The kit is the very nice Tamyia 1/48 Stug III, built OOB. Painted with ModelMaster enamels & weathered with oil washes & pastels.
Wow Rick, this is even better than the Sherman. I like the dusty look you achieved on the lower half. Also the faded paint looks great also. You know, for a wingie guy you’re okay. LOL
I hope you continue putting out all this great 1/48 armor. [tup]
Looks nice! those 1/48 tamiya kits really are “slammers”. Two finishing questions for you however: 1) why the dk red tow cable ends? I would have thought they’d be oiled metal, just like the rest of the tow cable. 2) the hue of the roadwheel dust doesn’t match the dust accumlated on the sprocket, idler and chassis lower walls – is it just something missed due to the pic angles?
Very nice, Rick! It’s been a long time since I’ve built any armor, but not that long where I don’t recognize a great build when I see it…and I see one now. Excellent work! [tup]
HTH, Very sharp eyes sir. I wondered if anyone would notice the anomolies. From a realism standpoint, I agree with your comments. I used a little artistic license to add some color variation to what was a very monochromatic model, but had the same thoughts as you. It would be very easy to change, but I’ll probably leave it as is.
GIP, The lower hull is metal as I think all of the Tamiya 1/48 kits have metal hulls. The kit fits very well & is a very straight forward build.
Tanky, I used Vallejo Ochre Brown acrylic for the tool handles.
Rick, looks great, I like the weathering. I built that as my first armor kit and just finished the sherman - which btw, your looked great, I just didn’t get a chance to comment on that thread.
The only comment I have is that very slight gap between the upper hull and the cast metal lower hull. On mine, I used mr surfacer to fill it in.
Beautiful job Rick its hard to believe this is 1/48 the painting and weathering really bring out the best in this and the pics are nice too, Great work.
Very nice build,I like the weathered tracks and faded paint.I am thinking about trying this kit,Ifeel that empty back deck is crying for some stowage, which I want to experiment with,I was thinking about some stuff from that 1/48 Verlinden kit.
