Tamiya 1/48 Spitfire MkI WIP- FINISHED!!!

She’s finished! A few weeks ago when I was experiencing the decal problems,I thought she’d never be done. But, I was able to play hookey from work today so I could finish her up. Here she is:

Thanks everyone for the kind words, those really helped keep me focused. I truly appreciate it. [^]

What can I say Frank she was worth the effort, that is a truly lovely looking Spitfire.

Congrats on a fantastic build [tup][tup][tup]

Cheers

Darren-

Thanks again for the kind words and encouragement, if it wasn’t for all the support I received, it would probably be sitting in the scrap box right now.

Now THAT’S a very impressive build, Frank! You put a lot of time into this one, and it definitely shows. Well done! Something I’d be proud to display. [tup]

Mike,

Thanks, that means a lot to me.

I used BMF painted red for the gun muzzle covering tape. I also made them uneven on purpose, figuring the armorers had more important things to worry about besides getting the tape pieces on straight! [8D]

Looks great. I like the way the tape looks. Very nice.

Frank, that’s one of the nicest Spitfires I’ve seen and if you hadn’t told us about the problems you had, I’d never have guessed. [tup] for the build and [tup][tup] for your perseverance!

Mark

Frank,

[bow][bow][bow] Now that is a beauty! Great build and a lovely finish. Plus its in Barder’s markings as well! Superb!

You see, all that hard work paid off![;)] Well done!

Now, when are you starting that Corsair…[:-^]…[:D]

Thanks guys! I am very proud of her.

Darren-

As for that Corsair, I’m chomping at the bit waiting for the GB to start! It’s been difficult not to start early. [:D]

Thanks Mark, your compliments are very much appreciated!

Looks great!

Man-- that’s nice looking stuff.

Pretty Spit, there.

Hi Frank

Beautiful Spitfire! I myself have just purchased the Hasegawa 1/32 Mk.Va Spitfire “Douglas Bader” kit to make for my father as a present later on this year, which I hope turns out somewhere near as good as your Spit.

Can I ask what JWB has above. What wash technique have you used for your Spitfire as it looks fantastic. Also, please can you advise your technique for painting the exhaust stacks as they look spot on!

Thanks very much!

Mark

Mark-

Thanks for the compliments! For the wash, I used black and raw umber oil paints diluted in mineral spirits over a coat of Future to protect the paint underneath.

For the exhaust, I first painted them a dark brown/black mix, then a wash of medium brown pastel chalk ground up and diluted with mineral spirits. After that had dried, I “dusted” them with dry light grey pastels. The exhaust stains were sprayed on with Tamiya XF-20 Medium Grey and dusted dry with the light grey pastels to blend the color into the exhaust stacks. Hope this helps!

Be sure to post pics of your Spit when she is finished, I look forward to seeing another of Doulas Bader’s aircraft!

Sorry about the red “X”'s, but I moved photos around today in photobucket and lost the direct links to them. I replaced the finished pics, though. Thanks for looking, and the great compliments!

That is superb!

Just a beautiful Spitfire- in every aspect. the paint is spot on, the panel lines and washing is subtle but effective. If that isn’t the nicest looking Spitfire I’ve seen on these forums, it’s gotta be a “Top 5”. And it’s one of the nicest looking builds of any type I’ve seen in a while. Wow.

Hat’s off to you on that one. That Spitfire deserves a special place on your shelf.

Jon-

WOW! Thanks a ton! The encouragement I have witnessed on these forums is nothing short of spectacular. It has really jump started my enthusiasm to build more! I really appreciate the kind words. [:)]
