Tamiya 1/48 Raiden (Jack) with propeller action

Hi,
This is a newly finished Raiden (Jack). This model is a by-product of my previously done A6M5 zero since
there were leftover paints from the zero, I decided to hit this raiden as an easy build. Build is OOB and it took
1 week to finish it.

Thanks for looking
Uh-oh

Hey uh-oh, very nice build you have there. Excellent job on the weathering and wear and tear, very realistic. I like it a lot. Give us some details on your weathering process. Keep up the good work.

Steve

Love that last photo, could pass for the real thing. Excellent weathering. Definately one to be proud of.

Great job “breaking her in”. Very nicely weathered for that “in the field” look. Great build, uh-oh.

Great looking build! You finished that in one week? It truly looks awesome!

Great job with the peeling paint. The motor is a gret effect too. Well done. Did you use a pager motor or a set from Dynamic Scale Modeling?

Very nice Jack. The weathering looks appropriate for the aircraft & time period. Well done.

Regards, Rick

Very nice weathering job! Marc, I believe the motor comes with the kit, its Tamiya’s properller action line.

Nicely done uh-oh!! [tup][tup] I love the weathering job, it looks very realistic.

Excellent job, especially on the weathering! How did you weather the decals like that? Paint the base color over them?

Thanks you all for your kind words. This kit comes with a touch-dash motor and I almost hit the kit with a hammer when it did not work after everything was done. Then I tried to connect it to a 9V battery and it jumped to live. I almost burned the motor. For the weathering, I obtained the chipped paint look with a small piece of sponge and masking liquid before the base coat, and when the base coat was dried to the touch, I used a eraser and removed the dried masking liquid, leaving the chips in place. For the decals, I used a 2000 grit sand paper and gently sanded the decals to get a worn look. The aircraft was finally coated with Future + tamiya flat base in 10:1 ratio. This coat gave a fade look to the paint as Tamiya flat base mixed with future gave me a slight milk-like liquid that look like mist. I guess 10:1 ratio (10 future - 1 flat) was too much flat. I will try to reduce it in the next build.

Very nice looking build! The weathering is some of the best I’ve ever seen.
