Another build from 2023, Tamiya’s…1971 tooled Buffalo
Mister…you have been one busy man at the bench and this one turned out to be a very good looking build despite its age. Did you use the OOB decals or aftermarket?
A winner in my book! ![]()
Nice work on that Buffalo. I built this same kit many years ago in the same paint scheme. And the mother-in-law gave me a second copy of the kit that very next Christmas that I still have in the stash. I’ll probably do that one in USN colors.
I used the kit decals, all OOB build ![]()
Very nice job. I did that one as a secret santa gift a few years ago. Great little kit.
It’s definitely good for it’s age, going on 55 years now that tooling.
Beautiful build Grant! I’ve always liked the looks of that “pugnacious” fighter. Didn’t the Finns have success flying these planes?
@MR_TOM_SCHRY Yes, the Finns did have some success with the Buffalo.
That’s a sharp looking Buffalo Grant! By chance, did you rescribe the panel lines?
I have this kit along with Czech Models offering and yes, for the age of the Tamiya kit, it holds uo well and it shows with your build!
Happy Modeling,
Mike
No rescribing, just OOB build ![]()
That is superb build of an old kit! The paint finish and weathering are top-notch!
The Buffalo was such a maligned fighter in Allied service yet performed admirably in Finnish hands. I had read the Finns removed the armor plating to save weight and to gain better maneuverability. Is there any truth to this? Or was this a case of experienced Finnish pilots using superior tactics against inexperienced Soviet aircrew?
No way.. So basically you did some sort of wash to the raised panel lines then?
If so, holy… From this side, they look like you engraved them!
Happy Modeling,
Mike
I used Flory Models dark dirt wash on it ![]()
Nice work on the Buffalo. I have built a couple of the Tamiya offerings but not in the British paint and markings. Very nice paint work and the canopy is flawless. I’ve been wanting to build one in Finnish colors. Thanks for sharing.
What a great looking build. That two tone underside is wild! I wonder why they did that?
How was the SH’s build compared to Tamiya’s? I have both kits!
Love your Special Hobby Buffalo!
Happy Modeling,
Mike
