This kit was started in mid August of this year as a quick build that didn’t get finished till two weeks ago. My original idea was to just build it without fixing anything such as the open sponsons.
I stopped work on the kit for a month after one of the kit included tracks decided to snap on me. In November I made an attempt to fix the track by tying together the two track ends with some wire and that worked for a day till the track snapped in another section. I finally ended up taking a pair of tracks from another Stug III in the stash to finally finish this one.
The kit was painted with Tamiya acrylics and weathering done with various
different enamels. The horrible kit included string for the tow cable was replaced with wire. I did not add the kit included schurzen as it’s too thick. Markings are for 237th StuG Brigade, Wehrmacht, Russia 1943. I do plan on adding figures at a later date hence why the hatches are open.
I’m happy with how the model turned out however I’d like to refine my weathering skills a lot more.
stik, I agree I keep putting off stowage and figures. Along with airbrushing those are my three most disliked things to do. I used to really enjoy doing figures now I put them off till there’s around ten or so waiting to get painted and I finally get tired of looking at them on the shelf.
The stowage is something I need to finally start doing and some of my builds look odd without anything such as Sherman’s. Who knows in a couple weeks I might bring the Stug back on the bench and do some more work on it. The more I’m looking at it the more easy fixes I want to do.
Thanks, M1, Panzer, Tojo and Bish. I’m glad you guys like the camo after airbrush it on I really wasn’t happy with how it looked and thought about redoing the entire thing.
After writing out the post and doing some thinking. I am going to dig around in my spares box and see if I can find some jerry cans, helmets etc. I might even try my hand at making a tarp if there’s enough milliput. Now to go work on those figures.
You did a fine job on the camo. Although they can really bring a build to life, Iam not much of a fan of figures because my hands shake too much when I try to paint small details.
The paint came out looking fantastic. Sometimes the tracks will give you a hard time but looks like you whipped that sucker into submission. For stowage there are some very good resin sets on eBay and are well worth getting a couple. Again, great job overall.[B]
How frustrating the track issues must have been! Great looking tank hunter. I was recently doing some web search on the Hetzer and was shocked to see how tiny it looks next to the Stug iii
Haven’t started work on the figures or stowage for now. There are a few bottles of paint I ordered for the figures and with the delays with the post I don’t expect to see till after Christmas.
