Keep at it Hinksey, looking good.
The Tamiya Pershing is one of my favorite builds, goes together well. One of my favorite tanks as well. I’ve built two, another in the stash that’ll get Friuls, maybe a very late WWII build.

Good evening guys,
She’s finally complete! Light dry brushing done, a bit of chipping and detailing and plenty of mud-I wanted her muddy from the start!
I’m really pleased with this one-this is by far my best model yet (imo). I know it’s only my third but I’ve learnt a hell of a lot-mainly from you guys-and it all came together in this build! I’ve spent a lot of hours one this one and it’s really paid off.
Apart from the MG mount snapping off this has pretty much gone perfectly. The mud is the Tamiya diorama texture paint, I think it looks brilliant.
It’s my birthday next week (30) and for it I know I’ve got a Tamiya 1/48 Flakpanzer and 1/35 Humvee coming-what shall I start first!
Please let me know what you think, apologies for some slightly blurry shots-I had to use the camera on my phone to take these…
Thanks for looking-I’d really appreciate any comments and suggestions…

Looks good Hinsky: I guess you won’t be needing my MG post!
4 things stand out to me: 1) I wouldn’t leave the MG tripod on the rear of the turret like that. The bracket was fairly thin strip metal and the tripod was heavy. Plus, the tripod had a storage location inside one of the left fender bins. No reason for it to to out and exposed like that.
a minor nitpick: the lip around the shell ejection port could have used some putty. It was integral to the casting of the left turret wall in reality. But it’s a minor thing…
it seems you’ve applied some sooting to your barrel. SOme people feel this is OK but to me, it doesn’t match reality where 20th century shells used smokeless powder. In future builds keep this to a minimum
steel chipping: again an artistic point here and only my opinion: I’d argue that the edges should be dark – oiled areas where hands and feet have worn off dust. To get to the bare metal beneath would be quite the feat.
Keep up the Great work!
Cheers buddy,
The MG 'pod was just among the random stowage so I just hung it off there-it’s not fixed or anything so that can come off no problem.
As for the chipping, I uhhmed & ahhed over weather to chip it at all, wether to use a grey/silver, a red primer colour, a lighter green or a black. In the end I chose a grey which actually came out a little more silvery than I intended but I can live with that.
The main thing to me is each model I build is better than the last so I’m obviously doing something right!
Yep, I won’t need the MG post, I hope you haven’t posted it already!
Again, I wasn’t sure about the sooting; some pictures of models I’ve looked at show heavy sooting and some none whatsoever.
I think I’ll do the Humvee next. It’s the version with the TOW missile carrier which does look superb.
Thanks for your comments matey,

Great work Ben, enjoying the build and learning something new each build is one of the great things about this hobby.
Terry.
“Again, I wasn’t sure about the sooting; some pictures of models I’ve looked at show heavy sooting and some none whatsoever.”
That’s why one shouldn’t rely on models as reference but photos of the real item, IMHO.
Ben - Very nice and as you said the most important thing is to get better with each build.
Roy already gave you a few nidpicks…mine would be this…the weathering is in general inconsistant. You have real heavy…chunky mud on the road wheels…but thing like the fenders are almost clean.
Looking forward to seeing the M1025
Rounds Complete!!
Nice job Ben. I think the guys have you covered here.
Considering this is only your third armour build, you’re showing great improvement and progression with each build, even more so seeing that you’re brush painting.
Keep up the good work. [tup][:)]
Ben, a nice model, and I’m happy to hear that you feel you are improving with each build; that is, after all, the goal.
I have to be truthful however; whatever this big stain on the side of the turret is here ruins the model for me. Sorry to be so bluntly honest, but I can’t understand what that is supposed to be?
Rust? Doesn’t look like it, and far too much of it if it were.
Mud? Doesn’t look like it and there’s no reason why it would appear there in such a huge blob without you needing to give some long-winded explanation.
I’m going to take a guess and say that it’s mud? If that’s the case, then you should take some time to do some research into realistic weathering of muddy vehicles–and NOT “models”, as Roy suggested. This is the kind of umplanned, excessive weathering that you would be better to do without. Also, the spare tracks wouldn’t be dirty like that either.
Can you clean that up? Remove it somehow?
Hiya lads,
Thanks for the comments-much appreciated. As you know this is only my third ever build so all the time I’m trying out new techniques and methods-some that work better than others!
Doog, there is a daft long winded explanation that clears up the brown splodge on the LHS of the turret-I won’t go into it though, it’ll bore you! It’s isn’t supposed to look anything like that obviously!
I would like to minimise it at best. The picture that showed that slodge was using the flash-in all honesty it really isn’t that bad but I’d like it gone all the same. Luckily that brown is acrylic so what is the best way of shifting it without damaging the olive enamel beneath?
All in all this is by far my favourite model-I’m REALLY happy with it. A few errors but how else will I learn-all I need is for you lot to point them out. Another 3 models down the road and I’m sure the errors will decrease massively!
Unfortunately I don’t have any model building buddies (apart from you lot). It would be great to have a real pro come and show me how to do some trick paintwork etc but at this minute You Tube is as good as it gets!
On my next build I’ll be using pigments/powders etc. I’ve got a nice selection of mig pigments including desert sand which I’m hoping to put to good effect on my Humvee.
What is the best way to shift that brown acrylic? What else should I do to it or should I leave her alone now?
I’ve taken some daylight pictures too-yesterdays photos were awful!
Keep the good and bad comments coming-I need them!
Cheers guys,

Okay,
I popped out to the log box outside for some wood for the log burner and found that the postman had been yesterday afterall (we have a postal strike in some parts of Britain)! Thanks to the Doog and everyone else who raised some pointers for me…I’ve removed most of the sooting from the Muzzle brake, I’ve got rid of most of the silver chipping which was way OTT, the MG tripod is gone and I’ve had a general tidy up. I’m far happier with it now.
Please let me know what you think-positives and negatives alike! Sorry about the picture quality-I’m still using the camera phone; I have a lovely digital camera but unfortunately the lead to hook it up to the computer doesn’t want to work.
I’ve posted these on a separate thread but I thought I’d stick them on here to make the blog complete…
I was thinking that seeing that my build prior to this one was the Firefly I’m about due for an Axis WWII armour build so I’ll be doing the Wirbelwind Flakpanzer and not the Humvee on my birthday.

Thank God!
Some half decent photos now added!
Thanks to everyone who has given me help on this build-your constructive criticisms from earlier helped me turn it around and into a real beauty!
