Tamiya 1/35 88mm Flak 36 W.I.P

Thought I’d post up my first build in 3-4yrs, and my first being new to the forums. Like the title says its Tamiya’s 1/35 88mm. I’m building this OOB to get back into the swing of things. I don’t consider myself a skilled modeler of any sort(I used to think I had a bit until I started looking around the forums, you guys rock!), but I love the hobby. I’m mainly building this kit to practice paint and weathering techniques. You’ll have to excuse the picture quality as it is from my cell phone. I’ll get better pics this week from my GF’s Camera. =)

Session #1 (Figure to show scale.)

Session #2 (Figure to show scale)

Hope to have the rest of the gun finished this week and then I can start painting.

Bigger pics! But I do like what you show so far…[tup]

Not sure why the pics are not opening bigger? Any suggestions?

EDIT: Pics fixed…operator error =P

[:D]

Just click on the picture and they’ll get a lot bigger.

The old Tamiya kit is still a great model, looks like yours is coming along nicely. I used the extra FLAK 37 barrel from the Dragon kit to snazz mine up a bit

The Tamiya Flak 36 was, indeed, a very good kit in its day. In fact, it won several ‘Model of the Year’ prizes. Also, the Afrika Korps boxing eliminates one of the biggest faults of the original boxing - the crew figures.

In the Uk, the Dragon kits are now about 40% more expensive than the Tamiya Afrika Korps version (and the original version, though OOP, can easily be found for less than the Italeri Bofors gun). However, in terms of detail, finesse, and sophistication of materials and tooling, I think it’s still well worth the extra.

I do wish that Tamiya would release the Afrika Korps Flak 36 crew as a separate release, though.

Cheers,

Chris.
