Tamiya 1/12 Ducati 1199 Panigale S

Just wrapped this up for the 2018/19 motorcycle group build. Being a new Tamiya kit it went together well. I really struggle with the wheel decals (red stripes) but thats probably my impatience. Paint was tamiya TS8 - Italian red right from the can. Their paints are pretty amazing. Anyhow -fun as usual!

Some of the build shots

Nice alclad titanium gold

The clear coat ruined it, so I pulled and resprayed - this color is very sensitive to touch BTW

Ducati uses the engine as part of the frame. Interesting build

Forks and swing arm on

Just before the seat and body panels went on.

All that was left was the rear view mirrors, rear license plate and decals

Thanks for looking.

Looks sharp. The exhaust painting is convincing enough. A lot of detail gets covered with the body panels.

I don’t get why the screw heads in the ends of the axles aren’t covered up on these Tamiya kits. It would be so easy to put a plug over them.

Ya - with these kits you spend a lot of time building up sub-assemblies, detail painting and the overall affect is really cool - and then you put the body panels on. That’s why I take the pics along the way. I agree a few little plugs here and there would cover up the screws, but all in all they are a joy to build.

Kensar - thanks for the kind words.

Very nice. That is a very realistic look you pulled off. I’m not a bike guy but that is one sharp build.

BK

I’m not either, but I’m building one for the same group build and having lots of fun with the model.

And I agree, John’s Ducati is one sharp build indeed.

BrandonK - I reccomend building one of these Tamiya bike kits. The best fitting, best engineered models I have ever built. I’m not really a bike guy either but after doing a couple of these I’m hooked. Thanks for the kind words.

Greg - looking forward to your finished Police bike. Then do yourself a favor and get one of these amazing Tamiya bikes!

Very nice turnout bud. I’m not a bike guy but I know a good build when I see it. [Y][Y][Y][Y]

You’d think all those tiny parts would prevent a Tamiya motorcycle from being a box shaker, but they really are so well-engineered that they almost fall together. If you can paint small parts, you can make one of these look great.

Thanks for the kind words.

LonCray you are spot on. Lots of fun detail painting on sub assemblies that all come together effortlessly.

Well, I am a bike guy, and this one turned out exceptionally well! If you had a race track back ground it would look almost real! Great job, John!

Thanks Bruce - it’s another increadible Tamiya kit that falls together. Ya - my photo booth is my workbench…lol, I’m lazy. Looking forward to your Rossi figure!
