Takom 1/35 St. Chamond Early rebuild/repaint WIP

Pulled this kit off the shelf that I completed back in 2018 I believe for the Resurrection GB.

At the time I don’t think I was really ready for this kit or paint scheme as I had just recently gotten back into the hobby. It was my first attempt using enamel washes and I ruined some of the camouflage in certain spots. I have never been happy with the kit and have always wanted to either replace it or try stripping this one and starting over.

So far all I have done is taken the tracks off of the model. The model will be stripped with Simple Green which usually takes about six to twelve hours to remove the paint. Then I’ll start attacking any seam lines and mold lines I can find.

I think the St Chamond is such a wacky design - so naturally I like it! Will be following your refurbishment of the “French Kleenex box with a chicken on it”!

Looks cool, looking forward to seeing her repainted.

The St. Chamond was a cool tank, except for the nasty habit of ramming her main gun into the mud.

Thanks RG and Gamera.

The St. Chamond is an interesting tank. It was the wrong tank for trench warfare. It was very unpopular with French tank crews and most the tanks were scrapped after WWI apart from some made into ammunition carriers.

For all it faults once the German lines started collapsing towards the end of the war the St. Chamond preformed really well over flat terrain. Not to mention it was fast for a WWI tank going 12kph/7mph.

Those “billbard” sides also are handy for any number of camo schemes.

Like the ones with painted-on trees and foliage? That almost looked like a Monty Python sketch just waiting to happen:

“Here is an example of a French Chamond tank. You cannot see it, because it is hiding…”
