Hey all, I have been asked by a fellow at work who used to fly the TA-4F with VMA-127 and would like me to do a model of one of his A/C used at that time. He has not gotten the pics to me yet, but I am having a heck of a time finding a model of this model of A/C.
I found a 1/72 fujimi, but keep reading about a 1/48 and a 1/32 Hasegawa kit. Anybody know of where to find them? Ebay gave me sweet bugger all.
Fujimi did the TA-4F in 1/48, the issue I have is kit No. P15/30015, It’s been a while since I have seen one on a shelf. Hasegawa did the TA-4J in 1/32, it’s kit no. 1163. It is actually their A-4E kit with extra parts to convert it to the J, you have to do some cutting. It’s been a long time since it was issued, I seem to remember it was issued twice, so there is another possible kit number.
I have the old Fujimi TA-4f kit, 5A-12 if you want it. There are no decalsbut I’ll throw in some weapons for it if you want. This is the original issue with the TA-4 flying with a couple H-3s as they start refueling from a HC-130.
The Hase 1/32 TA-4J is a complete, ready to go kit. It shares a lot of components with the single-seater, but no conversion is required. Perhaps you are thinking of the OA-4M, which was the TA-4J kit with some conversion pieces added and white metal details?
There have been at least 3 issues of the TA-4J, the latest was probably about 4 years ago with a set of decals for a special scheme commemorating 75 years of Naval Aviation. A search on Ebay under “Skyhawk” should turn up at least a couple of them, they are fairly common in the various boxings although there don’t appear to be any listed at the moment.
