I need some help from T34 builders.
I just started to buld Trumpeter’s T34-85. They suggest using model masters Russian Armor Green #2129. Is this an accurate color. I like the color but it looks a little to dark.
Thanks
John

It’s one of many dark greens that could be used. There were so many factories building T34’s, that it was hard for them all to consolidate one spec of Armour Green.
2129 when sprayed on and allowed to dry, IMHO looks a bit to blue-- on my Russian builds, I mix in chromate green(1734) ,olive drab,(4728)and some times a little burnt umber(4605)-- mix well and do a ‘spayout card’ till you get it where you like it—2129 will look very good by itself if you do a darker type wash or filter over it–best of luck-- tread[8D]
I juse Tamiya field gray and lighten with either yellow or white. Whatever color you choose, be sure it isn’t too dark or too light in color.
I recall a post by Steve Zaloga ruminating on the sudden fad to make WW2 Soviet armor with a heavy green tinge. He stated that all WW2 Soviet armor was definitely very dark green despite the current modelling fad. I think it’s one of those situations where art contintues to ape art (think of the overdone paint chip fad)
Maquette, a model company from the former Soviet Union suggests using 34151 for the Soviet color 4B0, that was used on T-34s. It is not an exact match but a good starting point if you want to get down to a “standard color”. I like to use Forest Green 34127 for the weathered shade (it supposedly darkened with age). Xtra Color and Polly Scale also make Soviet Tank greens that are more OD in shade that I like to use. Or Tamiya’s Khaki Drab has been also suggested. I have built T-34s in all the colors previously mentioned along with other now OOP Russian Green paints. Pick one and run with it. With so many T-34s built you really cant go wrong.
