T-38 Talon Kits?

Has anyone heard any news about new T-38 Talon kits coming out in 1/72 or 1/48 scale. I thought I read somewhere that a kit may be rereleased in 2010. I’m anxious to build a pair of NASA T-38s and would rather not use the PM kits. Thanks, Redglare.

Haven’t heard a thing. It would be very welcome, however. All I currently have is the ancient Hasegawa kit. I also have the 1/48 Sword kit, but I haven’t heard too many good comments about it.

PM Models from Turkey has a 1/72 T-38. It’s on Squadrons site.

What about using the 1:48 scale Testors/Fujimi kits?

The Sword kit is OK, it takes some work (particularly in parts prep) but a whole lot less work than trying to convert an F-5B.

Considering that the only 1/48 F-5B kit I’m aware of is the Classic Airframes kit, which is expensive and enough work trying to get it to look like what it’s supposed to represent let alone converting it to something else, I would view seeking out the Sword kit as preferable.

Incidentally, converting an F-5B is exactly what you’ll need to do if you want a T-38 from what lurks in Hasegawa’s old box, because an F-5B is exactly what that kit is.

I do understand that Sword has announced, perhaps recently released, a 1/72 T-38. Sword’s stuff has gotten some better since the release of the 1/48 T-38, so I wouldn’t judge a 1/72 one from them these days by their old 1/48 kit.
