This is my caricature of the escort vehicle briefly seen in Episode V. The original parts were used as a pattern for a resin kit that was available for a little while during the 2010s. One resin kit was built and painted for disp^lay purposes and toured for a while at various shown in North-western Europe.. and did suffer a bit from the transport and all the handling. I recently ‘refurbished’ it to its former glory, in timefor next years SW jubilee anniversary.
Absolutely Love It! The Cloud Car is one of my favorite SW vehicles!
I never understood the design of the Cloud Car from The Empire Strikes Back. What was the vehicle supposed to be, anyway? It sure wasn’t a fighter. And why the need for two pilots?
The whole design just doesn’t make sense.
Since it is armed with two laser guns, I think the idea was for it to be some kind of interceptor and vehicle to guide and accompany visiting crafts to the Cloud Car…
It was probably just a police craft for perimeter security, not for warding off a full-scale attack. You know how it goes - the accountants deny requests for a full-size air speeder and instead approve a Fiat-500 with the second crewman serving as another pair of eyes in lieu of expensive sensors.
-OR-
It was a “throwaway” vehicle quickly cobbled together by the ILM team for just a few shots in the movie.
Either way, I liked the design, as it was different yet fit perfectly into the Star Wars universe. You know, before the Dark Times. Before the pre/sequels. Before the “unnnn-da-da-da-da-da” engine noises and egg carton/harmonica/Big Mac container designs.
But WOW, an egg plane Cloud Car? That’s tough to do, like trying to make an egg plane version of the McDonnell XF-85! ![]()
You are right, RealG, some subjects are harder to turn into Eggs than other… Some because they already somewhat look like a caricature..! LOL Also, this may not be everyone’s cup of tea.. My ‘design’ may not ‘work’ for other people.
