I will never buy nor build another AMT/Ertl kit as long as I live.
Poor fitting parts, confusing instructions, soft plastic, and the list goes on and on. This kit (AMT/Ertl Kit # 8810 SV-22 Osprey) was a piece of junk. If anybody has this kit in their stash, it’s not worth the effort of building it.
BUT…I stuck with it and did the best I could. So here she is in all her glory. An SV-22 Osprey anti-submarine aircraft in retro commemorative World War 2 US Navy/Marine Corps PBJ-1H/J Mitchell colors. There is no actual US Navy SV-22 Osprey antisub variant. It was proposed by the Navy, but never built. I apologise for any inaccuracies, goofs, mistakes, etc. as I have bad eyesight issues and cannot build models to a higher “professional” degree.
I did the Italeri bird. There were some issues but overall not a bad kit
I’m a fan of retro / commemorative markings on aircraft. In my opinion, this scheme looks pretty good on this plane. Well done on a rough build.

Looks great to me! Keep them coming.
I like it. Scheme looks great.
Now thats really interesting
@WhatIfRebel: I hear you on AMT aircraft kits as those things have been known to be a “bear”. You sure persevered and triumphed in the end though bud.
This did indeed turn out to be a pretty dang good-looking finish.
I don’t know if you build automotive subjects, but I will say that AMT does make some good auto kits. They require a little work in the stance and wheel/ tire locations to get to look right but the work is worth it in the end.
I don’t build much in the way of aircraft (I love my sci-fi), but it seems to me this bird came out great considering all the difficulties listed.
And there’s nothing to apologize for. The only real consideration is if you are pleased with the results.
Thanks for sharing!
That looks right at home with the Centennial of Naval Aviation retro schemes. Nicely done! I’ve seen one of these built up in D-Day style markings. This scheme looks much more at home on the airframe.
@mustang1989:
No, I don’t build cars. Was never interested in that subject.
All good potna. Just checkin’ to see if that was down your alley.
Sharp lookin’ Osprey @WhatIfRebel . I’ve liked these aircraft for a long time and you put this one together in rather good fashion for as much trouble as it gave you.
That formation of Osprey’s during the Super Bowl was definitely a cool sight to see.
