Sutcliffe productions 1/72 PB2Y Coronado

Cut out the fuselage halves and cut out the portholes and hatches.

Well you sure know a challenge when you see one. Various online posts say Archer carried the Sutcliffe line for a bit.

Three-bladed props on 1 and 4, four-bladed props on 2 and 3.

Yes but I like the fact that the plastic is on the heavy side…much easier to work with and the parts are very straight!

Oh thanks for the heads up on the prop blade configuration!

Mocking it up to scratch build some sort of cockpit detail…

I decided to try something different and traced around one of the fuselage halves and cut it out …then I glued it on.Joined the halves together and it is Rock solid. There is a raised spine that I will grind down with a sanding drum in my Dremel.I will leave the raised section at the tail joint for a secure mechanical connection.

Great subject ! Looks like a neat project, I’ll be following. Where did you score the plane, Ebay ??

Nope one of the guys on one of my Facebook Groups sold it to me!

I got this one on the Bay for 20 bucks!

Looking good Phil. I just don’t have the bravado to try a vac kit!

So many people say that! Once you learn how it really is not a big deal!

Mounted up the wings with a brass tube through the fuselage .set the dihederal with a couple of stain cans.

Empennage installed.

I’m really impressed with this.

I seldom try to assemble vac’s- ranks right down there with playing golf.

Golf frustrates me!Mark Twain once said that Golf is a good walk spoiled.I concur but I do like Putt Putt!

Floats installed .

Unfortunately, the cowlings were missing from the kit so I had to make them.I wrapped a piece of .20 styrene around a 13 mm socket held in place with a rubber band.I carefully applied cement to hold it together. For the front I turned them by chucking plastic plates into my Dremel and holding them against a file at medium speed until the were round and of suitable diameter. Then I glued the parts together and installed them after the engines were installed.Took awhile but it worked.
