I’ve been building armor for the last 5 or so years. Now I’ve decided to build a 1/48 B-17 for a change, and I’m a little out of practice with these winged things.
Question; what color and or how do you paint the superchargers on the B-17? I can’t remember if it should be rust, or discolored stainless steel, or? Any information and tips would be greatly appreciated.
I painted the ones on mine rust, and then took some shavings from a #2 pencil lead and useed a Q-tip to apply it to the superchargers and gave them a coat of dullcoat to seal them, Works, looks good, free.
Excellent pictures but would point out a couple of things. The item which is being discussed is actually the turbocharger (exhust driven). The supercharger is mechanicaly driven internal item that can be either single stage or two stage.
The cover on the turbocharger in the upper picture is apparently brand new as they are normaly the same color as the rest of the turbocharger and exhaust system. (or multicolored as may be seen in the pictures).
Excellent color pictures! Thats exactly what I was looking for. I can deal with that.
Yes, your right turbocharger would be more accurate after thinking about what you wrote. It’s funny, the book I use for reference uses the term “turbosupercharger”. My mistake. [:I]
Thanks to all of you, you’ve solved my problem. I’ll post pictures as I go.
Jet Exhaust made by Testors does a nice job of looking like discolored unpainted metal. Before I discovered it, I used to mix silver and flat black, with a little gold to get the look.
Thanks for the heads up on the Testors Jet Exhaust. I haven’t needed many of the metallic colors with armor.[:)] My memory coming back more on all the different metal shades.
