I was wondering how you guys ( and maybe girls? ) detail your missles. My standard model is usually 1/48 scale fixed wing aircraft. In real life most if not all air to air missles have some sort of writing on them. Warnings, loading instructions, something. I have yet to find a 1/48 scale model that has detailed missles/ ordanance. Hasagawa sells aftermarket missles, rockets, bombs, etc., but I’m not sure if they are any more detailed then the stuff that comes standard with the kit. I have searched my online hobby stores as well as the net and have come up with little. Anyone got any suggestions on what route to take? You can find upgraded cockpits, tires, etc. out the ying-yang. How am I supposed to make my plane realistic with a generic missle?
Sizemore,
Have you checked w/ your local hobby shop??
I have a few different resin missle sets that are made by a co. called SOL
To me they are more “in scale” and detailed than the missles you get w/ the kit. They also come w/ the launch rails awell.
It is funny how the aftermarket co’s make basically everthing under the sun[8D] except for missles.
For some reason or nother I want to say “Super Scale” made data for missles?. I could be wrong though
Flaps up,Mike
Hasagawa Aircraft Weapons “C”, kit numberr X48-3 has most modern AIM’s. The kit includes decals for the stripes as well as for the data markings. The missiles are very accurate and even include a few AGM’s and several gun pods.
Berny13 is right. The Hasegawa weapons sets provide all the painting instructions and decals to really bring the missiles to life. (But don’t forget to drill out the ends of the rocket motors where required!) I use the 1/72 scale ones and they look great.
yeah, I always switch out the kits ordenance with Hasagawa ordenance sets - for modern sets A,B,C are absolutely wonderful. Now if they would only include the jstars - I would be a happy camper
Uhhh, JSTARS is a plane, not a piece of equip, I think you mean JDAMs.
Other than that, the greatest suggestion I can have is: don’t rivet count. A missile is a missile. As long as it has the proper amount of fins, and looks slightly cylindrical and missile-like, it’s good enough for me!
Why spend all that time super detailing and acft only to put generic missiles on it. I not only detail the missiles but also bombs, ECM pods, ext tanks and even the pylons on my model acft. IMHO it makes the completed model stand out more.
