I know that lots of people probably know this already, but I thought I would post something newer than what I found searching and what my results were.
I used Super Clean cleaner/degreaser to remove chrome from some AMT parts that needed to not have chrome on them. Soaked them submerged in a small glass jar. It worked well and it was all removed in less than 30 minutes. So there you go!

Yes, it does. I picked this up from a member in the old Agape forum about 10 years ago, who used Super Clean to strip the chrome from Tamiya’s chromed P-51D kit. I tried it myself on the Monogram Red Baron hot rod. It removed the chrome in about 2 minutes. I could see the chrome dissolve into the solution. It left the parts squeaky clean-no dirt or oil, just the bare styrene surface.
Since then, I use to strip paint from styrene, metal, and resin. The longer it soaks, the more the paint dissolves off or is softened to the point that some gentle scrubbing with an old toothbrush removes it. It’s my standard paint remover. And I’ve had no damage to any material. The fact that you can use a batch over and over, coupled with the reasonable price, makes it a perfect product for me to use.
And I use it around the house for cleaning grease messes.
