Hello all. Is anyone formilier with MR. HOBBY “super both”? Its on Lucky Models for $169. Is it worth it? Any comments…Harv

I have been using mr. super booth for months now. It is not as ideal as some other booths or even home-built booths due to lower power, but I use it for convenience since I live in a dorm room and I don’t have the tools and space for a bigger one. The filter is good for acrylics (I mainly spray tamiya acrylics), but gets clogged fast when I spray mr. surfacer 500. I suggest if you get it, spray close to the booth and turn on a fan in the background. After a airbrushing session I can still smell a little bit of the thinner. Also, always wear a mask certified for organic paint when airbrushing.

After looking at the picture and review over at ARC, I wouldn’t give you a plug nickel for the thing. Given the design, fan size, exhaust duct size, etc., I would bet a week’s pay you can’t produce an 80-100fpm capture velocity 3" in front of the booth.

Novice111’s post confirms my opinion since he perfectly describes how to paint safely if you don’t have a paint booth available.

IMHO, I could find a better way to spend $169. It’s certainly not super, and by definition, it’s not a booth.

Thanks for both of your imputs. Sounds like I`ll pass on this one. Right now I REALY dont need a booth. I build out in the garage and the little spraying i do is out there too. It is something I am considering for the future. My prob is, all I build is 1/32 aircraft, so a booth must be pritty good size. Thank you both…Harv

Dirtball, GIP has helped a lot of us build our own paintbooths through his suggestions of size of the box and the fan and size needed for good partical and fume extraction. here’s some pictures of the one that I built. The motor that I used is a Dayton shaded pole and permanet split capacitor (PSC) blower from GRAINGER’s $120.00, model 1TDT2 with 549cfm which is reduced quite a bit after you install a 3 stage air filter. This booth set me back around $215.00 to build and I would hazard to guess would blow the doors off most of the bathroom exhaust powered paint booths on the market for twice the price. Of course I did’nt figure my own labor into this cost, but it was rewarding just building this thing.

Harv, It’s 32" across by 22" tall and 20" deep. I hope that this helps.
