Hi all. Most of the armor I have built is either WWII or Modern stuff. I have realized that I have overlooked a very significant era in US military history, Korea. Do any of you have any suggestions on what I should build? Which kits to use? What reference material to look at? Etc…
Dragon has a couple kits. Their M-46 is nice (tracks are a little tough) and has the famous tiger paint job. Dragon also makes a M26A1 Pershing that is also nice. THeir is a DML M4A3E8 Sherman, but it is tough to findTamiya makes an M-26, that while more appropriate for WWII has 1 option for a Korean tank. Italeri makes a Chafee Early which is a good kit, but probably could use some AM tracks (Italeri’s tend to be very stiff and hard to work with. They have an older release Chaffee out there that has the wrong type of tracks. THose are just a couple of ideas I became familiar with recently on this forum. Check out the Korean War build thread here for more ideas. It’s not sticky so you might need to look a little
I am not to familiar with Russian and British tanks, but there were a few mentioned in the Korean war build thread. I believe Dragon makes a T34/85 and a JSU-152. As for the Pershings (I have both the Tamiya and the Dragon kits) the Tamiya kit is a bit nicer, but can only represent one of a couple Korean War Pershings. If you use kit decals only, it will be fine. If you use AM decals, you would be further ahead to get the Dragon, as it will give you more options. Also the Tamiya has one piece tracks while the Dragon kit has a complicated (as in seperate links and seperate guide horns) indie track setup
