su-76m information: anyone have any?

i’ve been fixing up maquette’s su-76m kit but having made a stupid mistake and the kit being the piece it is, i think i’ll just build the hull and major panels from scratch. i was planning on using the kit components to get the dimensions but i’m not so sure they’re accurate (the armor thickness wasn’t). does anyone have any detailed plans or scale drawings? know where i can buy or order some literature on the subject? it’s surprising that there’s so little available on it considering it was something like the second most numerous piece of soviet ww2 armor.

also when dimensions of a tank or spg are quoted, does width/length include the fenders or is it just the hull?

Here’s another one for you…

There’s also this small one bu D. P. Dyer…

It’s on this page…
http://www.onwar.com/tanks/ussr/profiles/psu76m.htm

The page lists FineScale Modeler, January 1992, as a reference. The summary for the issue includes…
The Samakhodnaya Ustanovka 76M
Details on the Soviet World War II self-propelled gun
By D. P. Dyer

I could be wrong, but I’m thinking the drawing would be in that issue. It’s available for $5.50US. Might be worth a shot…

D. P. Dyer also did a small book about the SU-76M…

Bellona Military Vehicle Prints Series Thirty-five, UK: Model & Allied, 1972.
D.P. Dyer, “Samokhodnaya Ustanovka 76: Soviet SU-76 Self-Propelled Gun Variants”

As far as I can tell it contains photos and drawings (1/76 and 1/48 scales). It’s long out of print, but you could check for a copy at AbeBooks…
http://www.abebooks.com

I just now checked and they don’t have that one listed, but they do have others in the series which are selling for between $10 and $25. Here’s a complete list of the Bellona series…

While looking around, I did happen to see this nice photo reference of the SU-76M at Aberdeen…

Best of luck with the project.
