Su-47 Berkut -- finished pix

While working on the RC-135, I decided I needed a nice decompression build afterwards. Here enters Hobby Craft’s Su-47 “Serkut” in 1/72 scale.

I was able to get the cockpit and afterburners completed in one session. I added scratch details to the office of the plane because the kit was very bare in this area, with only decals to represent the instruments. (the cockpit was really this simple):

my details seemed to spruce it up quite a few notches:

I even scratched a few more details on the ejection seat, mostly for practice, because you wont see it anyway due to the one-piece canopy:

and here is the completed cockpit assembly:

the afterburners were a straightforward assembly, painted black and dry-brushed with various metallic shades. The white (ceramic burns?) on the inside of the burner cans was an acrylic wash. I like the effect.

OWL

Very cool Owl. Great looking work so far.

Love the look of this plane, I wish someone did one in 1/48th [:(]

I too love the big Sukhoi jets, but a Berkut in 1/48 would be huge! The 1/72 kit is already just as large as my 1/48 F-16!! [:|]

After I posted I thought about the Academy 1/48th Su-27 I have. It’s huge- bigger than an F-15. Funny, I seem to get ‘locked into’ one scale even though I’ve done several WWII four engine bombers in 1/72 just because I don’t have the room for the same planes in 1/48th.

You have a good point, I’ll be following your build, and just may pick up the kit even if it is 1/72nd.

She’s lookin’ good so far! Nice work on the cans!

Looking great so far. I’ve never seen an Su-47 built up before.

Can’t wait to see more.

Great work OWL.

i dont like many modern jets but i think this one is awesome, along with the su-27.

This is one of few new generation aircraft i like .

[:P] need to see it good finished !! keep on it Owl

I have build the Zvesda/Revell Berkut. An easy kit but it has some accuracy issues, most noteably the nose.

How is the Hobby Boss kit? I notice it has a very different interpretation of how the burner cans should look like when compared to the Zvesda kit.

The Hobby Boss model builds up nicely. Only a few spots of putty was required around the intakes and at the wing roots…nothing in comparison to how much putty the RC-135 needed!

The gear wells are a bit bare, however. I spruced them up with wire to give them a busy appearance.

getting close to painting now!

OWL

all masked and ready to go!

primed with white, then added some little masks, can you guess what Im gonna do for the camo scheme?

dark gray added…darkest color is next!!

OWL

your work is always impressive owl… cant wait to see it done

Coming along nicely Owl. [Y] I have the Zvesda kit in line to be built. Have to finish a few other things first. [;)] Hope to get one or two finished in time for upcoming shows.

Thank you for the kind words, gents!

Here is the moment you’ve all been waiting for (or not… [;)] ) FINISHED PICS!!

The kit went together well, with only a bit of putty needed on the intake and wing joins. The cockpit and gear bays could stand to have more detail supplied in the kit, but its nothing a little bit of scratch building cant fix. The landing gear were also supplied as fully extended as if in flight. I trimmed the gear accordingly to give it a more terrestrial position. Since this is a demo craft, I kept it looking clean with minimal weathering. Enjoy!

p.s. I [ht] the Russian splinter schemes!

And of course I had it zooming around the backyard:

And here is a helpful size comparison to give you a better idea of how big this bird is. Here is the “Berkut” alongside a Harrier jump jet, both in 1/72:

OWL

great finish on this beast [Y]

light differences between camouflage are because you not used a gloss coat before decals? is a nice effect

Looks great Owl!

Love the crazy splinter scheme. [Y]

That’s a really nice looking bird. You did a great job Owl.

Gary

Nicely done.[t$t]

Sure makes the Harrier look small.[:D]

Nice build Owl. [t$t] Keep up the good work.
