Su-27 Cockpit Replacement

Hey Folks,

I have the 1/48 scale Academy Su-27 kit, and frankly, the cockpit area is a bit of a joke. The bang seat is just rediculous! I was wondering if you knew who made the best (the most bang for your buck) replacement for this area of the kit?

Thanks!

Here is a link to Great Models showing all the items they stock for this kit.

Oh wow, thats cool. Do you just type in the kit and it brings up all the goodies?? But that still doesn’t tell me which stuff I should be loking for to get the best value and detail…

once you see all the choices, it’s a matter of personal choice. Do you just want to replace the seat with a resin one, replace the seat and add some PE, or go the whole way and replace the whole cockpit with a resin replacement set. Value is in the eye of the buyer. I am usualy content to just replace the seat on many kits myself.

You could use the Airwaves PE set and Quickboost seat for less cost than the Aries cockpt set, but the level of detail you prefer is up to you.

I am working on the same kit but I am going to build it OOB as I don’t want to spend anymore money.

I have heard the nose is wrong and is too short as well but once again I am not spending even more money because they couldn’t even make the nose correct.

One thing to note is as designed the Academy cockpit was way to shallow and when putting a correctly scaled ejection seat made the seat set to high and interfered with the canopy. I don’t know if the Quickboost seat takes that into consideration. Neomega makes a beautiful resin cockpit and i think I will use that one instead of the Cutting Edge one. That was a great article about the Flanker, Mike. Thanks for posting that! The Flanker is one of my favorite planes, and I was really excited about getting one to build, but the cockpit left a bit to be desired. I’ll definately be using that article as a building reference once I get around to my Sukhoi.
