Stug III G complete: Update with new photos under different lighting

Well here it is for better or worse my Tamiya Stug III G all finished. Weathered with paint and Tamiya weathering master powders. Flat coated with model master flat. Lost the No tek light and need to find a replacement. What do you guys think? The pictures really do not do it justice.

These are photos taken today under better lighting conditions. In response to the question about the wash, yes I am considering trying on this model. As for the drive sprockets and guide teeth, my weathering obscured the worn metal look I had done. Not sure If I will ever attempt to build a model really dirty again.

Well, you’ve got a severe yellow tinge to your photos, so it’s kinda hard to judge exactly what ya got there, Shannon. I mean, it looks good on its face, but can you get some better-lit pics?

I’m with Doog. It is just really hard to see what it looks like.

[#ditto] I suggest you take the StuG outside (natural light condition) and take another pics.

But for a glance, the rust on the driver’s visor is still to much. Same for the other side.

The guide horn of the tracks and the teeth of the drive wheels, you need to paint them gun metal/metalic grey.

Did you do washing ? Hard to tell.

MB, Are you going to use the washes that you asked about? The build looks great!

Your model looks good from what we all can see…I would like to make a suggestion about lighting for your models.

Use 3 light fixtures…one 100 watt light above (18-24 inches) and slightly behind the model

Use one 60 watt to one side

And one 20 watt on the other side with your camera in the middle

The two side lights should be slightly higher than your subject and at about 30-45 degrees from center

This has worked great for me and the pictures look very professional.

Hope to see some great shots after you try this !!

Jerry

Well, that’s more like it, modelbuilder
I would say that it’s certainly an admirable effort!

I think you went way too heavy with the “dripping rust” on the front glacis.Additionally, fire extinguishers were only painted red after the war ended. Your FE should be painted the base color. And that light on the rear was not red, it should be painted black, I believe.

The rest of it looks fine.I’m curious though–why does your finish loook so grainy, especially on the rear deck there? It looks “pebbled” for some reason?

[#ditto] again. Otherwise I love it!

Im not sure about the finish. It didnt appear til I started adding the weathering coats.

I have a question for everyone, what is your method of weathering an armor kit? From the start of the weathering process to the end, do you use paints? pastels? washes? dry brushing? or a mixture of all? What is your favorite technique? How would you reccommend that I refine my weathering technique?
