ok, this is real quick and to the point, did the stugs wear the ambush camo scheme? also im having trouble deciding what to paint mine, so could you who own stugs post pics of them so i can figure out what to paint (if they didn’t have the ambush scheme) thanks all.
From what I can ascertain, the so-called ambush pattern appeared on certain vehicles only – and I’d say that they were factory jobs, very late in the war. Most Sturmgeschutzen late in the war when ambush was being applied, also had factory applied camo. But none of their factories seem to have used this interesting scheme.
While I can’t prove a negative, I can say that I don’t recall seeing any photographs of any Sturmgeshutzen with it (and the Stug is one of my favorite AFVs – I have lots of books)
…I have seen StuG’s that operated at Arnhem in the so-called “ambush” scheme–pics can be found in the Concord book concerning German armor at Arnhem…
…however, there is new evidence that points to the “disc” scheme as being what we call the “ambush” scheme today…this was discussed at length in a recent thread on Late War Panther Camo…should check it out, as it calls into question the whole notion of the ambush scheme…
Nice find on those Arnhem Stugs, MR. (located on pp. 28 and 43-45). Unusual as it appears only on some of the shurzen and not the hull itself. Still, a nice find!
…thanks…those Concord books are pretty decent refs…they also have one on German Armor in the Ardennes, 44-45…some good pics in that as well of late war camo and some interesting whitewash patterns on some Panthers…seems like some guy was looking for schemes like this in another thread: maybe, Late War Panther Schemes?
Ambush schemes were a late war camo.
