Strange spring inside my Paasche VL

So looking for some answers here on something I found in my old Paasche airbrush. Replacing the air valve packing I found a spring on the top side or other side of the packing.

In the original parts breakdown it does not show this spring

So looking at number 23 the individual parts I have. From bottom to top; the nut, spring, Valve plunger and the air washer. But above the air washer is a smaller spring which is in my Paasche, but it is not listed at all.

I also have the updated version of the VL and it too does not show this spring.

On the right side in a boxed view, you can see the trigger, then the washer and the valve plunger. But no spring

Does anyone know why on my Paasche that a spring is on the trigger side? Maybe from the past, someone who owned this did not know that there was no spring and put one in anyways?

One more question I have is the air valve assembly. How do you remove that without scratching or gauging it up? Is there a special tool not mentioned that I need to buy seperately?

Thanks everyone, looking for an answer to this mystery.

Someone was probably trying to overcome a sticky trigger return or something. I doubt any extra springs belong in there.

Those valves are inexpensive, if it sticks or has lateral movement/leaks etc., it may be best to just get a new valve. It is threaded so does remove, how easy I have no idea. I’d probably find a piece of rubber or neoprene tube that pushed on there, then take pliers to squeeze down on it and break it loose. Probably even a rubber band wrapped around the valve would cushion pliers but offer grip enough to get it broken loose.

thank you for the reply. I did remove the spring and it works fine. No stickiness for me. When I found this Paasche in my old desk it was in rough shape. Been buying parts like the packing, aircaps and more needles for it. Oil and a ultrasonic cleaner have been good to it.

I will try the rubber or neoprene. I can see yellow paint in the seem, what I do not know is how far it went in so just want to clean it up.

Thanks again for the tip
