neat idea, you folks that can put old models to a new use are a real insperation to me, one day i will be able to do that, pratice, practice, practice. are you goning to weather the old steamers or leave them as is?
That IS a really cool idea !![H]
yes I will be weathering them, and adding lots of detail, its a scrap yard so who know what may turn up.
Hi all a few pics, not fully weathered by any means just trying to get the composition right. which way round, bearing in mind I have a lot to fit on here.
hi all is this enough weathering on the first engine or not, dont know much about rust effects and such
hi all why is it that sometimes, as in above, even though I use the same format, on all my pics some will show and others have to be clicked on to show.
A small update.
Hi all here is another update for tonight.
Love the idea! Nice to see an occasional non-military diorama.
Hi all here is my next update the junk yard is starting to fill up.
I think this is cool. If I could a suggestion. You mocked it up kind of humble-jumble and it makes the items look dropped into the lot, to me.
Certainly they were big really heavy tractors, and would have been driven/towed into the lot. That suggests to me they’d kind of be lined up side-by-side.
It’s just a suggestion but it might make them look “heavier”.
Thanks for that luckily the only one glued in place is the first one the rest are just placed I figured I would get most of them done then work out the best way to place them, I agree it does look like a jumble. Not sure if the base will be big enough for all the models, it may get too crowded so may very well line them up more and reduce the number of engines on the dio. I can’t really make it any bigger. No where to store it.
Hi gmorrison how about this
Looks great. Needs a bunch of weeds when you get to that part. nice idea.
Hi all here is tonights progress.
I decided that this scrapyard should have everything including a kitchen sink, but I don’t have a 1/16th sink,so I devised a cunning plan to make one.
first I measured my sink then a made a 1/16th former.
then I cut a piece of ply 2mm bigger than the former (I will be using 2mm plasticard as my hot air gun has bit the dust I will be using a blow torch so need a fairly robust piece of plastic)for pushing the plastic over the former.
oops I did not heat the plastic up enough so only got it half way down before the plastic cooled down, then getting it off I snapped it so I had to make another one.
unfortunatlely I snapped this one getting it off as it was so tight, but this is what I got
and with a bit of cutting and drilling this is what i got
then when painted and added to the scrap yard here is the effect
Hi here is tonights instalment I have not done anything with the wood on the train as I have no idea how to weather plastic wood I may remove it altogether if I cant work out how to age it.
Hi all back to the junk yard, had a go at ageing the cab today.
Well here is tonights update can’t believe its nearly done.
Very nice!
