Stash vs stocks at LHS

Why is it that the models in hobby shops are more appealing than the ones in the stash?[:P]

'Cause they’re new! New is good. [:D]

Gary

Especially if they are kits that you do not have… yet.

Because the LHS kits do not have the “I really should build that damn thing since I paid good money for it” guilt associated them.

This proves that you’re a plastic addict… [H]

They are only more appealing until they get home, and then it’s all good!

I believe it’s called coveting

I resemble that remark…[^o)]

All of my kits at home are either earmarked for a squadron in the collection, or parts are noted that go over onto the squadron kits

I have a short list of kits to get or to get more of,so, those are a small amount more exciting to look at when I run across one at a show or LHS

I am in a very sad place, most people see an F-89 Scorpion model, and start to think about how it will look on their shelves, next to F-86 Sabres and F-84 Thunderjets,I see a cheap way to get a pair of Genie Rockets for the F-4 Phantom tests, lol

Rex

Rex, you are twisted, dedicated, or some combination of the two…

hah, it is hard to argue with the truth

I don’t even post stash pics in those threads, anymore, the coolest stuff is not in the pretty boxes on the shelves,it is either in the Hanging Folders boxes full of resin weapons, or in the plastic boxes full of airtight bags of decal sheets

This is a fun hobby, though, with a lot of facets

Rex

I guess it’s all of the above plus it’s a modelers’ disorder category 1. LOL

Modelers’ Disorders

Category 1 - Plastic Virus/Mad Kit Disease - the condition when a modeler can’t get enough kits to

satisfy oneself

Category 2 - Advance Modelers’ Syndrome/ Modeling Rut/ Modeling Block - the feeling of being burned-

out in modeling

Category 3 - The condition when one is so fired up to start a model but in the middle of the build the

interest starts to go down leaving plenty of half-finished projects

Lol stik I think you could open your own model shop!

Yeah, I’ve seen some model shops in my area, where I could say my stash is better stocked than you! Ain’t that sad… On the other hand I have a lot of kits to start if I wanted to.

There was a time, shortly before I got the right internet access - where I had (only) several kits in stash and felt I can’t start any of them, because I lack the reference material. Now it got better - mot of the reference can be had or at least ordered via internet, I’m basically limited by my time to build.

Have a nice day

NKM, I have had all of those conditions at one time or another…

Tarn, I have to confess that I am a huge ordnance junkie. I do look at kits form that pespective to see what stuff I can add to the spares bins for other builds. But not to point of “rob Peter to pay Paul”. That is one reason I have a beef with Hasegawa and their miserly load outs on most kits.

Dean, I seriously think I could open a shop and have it decently stocked with aircraft, armor, figures and a few ships… I have seen shops with smalle selections… LOL!

Pawel, thats how my stash grew frm a managable dozen or so on one shelf to the horde that I now posess. Always wanting something a little more for build X before I started. Then came eBay and very affordable kits that I had missed before along with good financial times for the wife and I…

Lol, I was in a shop today and I think your selection was better stik! I have about 20 kits, and though I am tempted to get more I have thus far been able to resist, I have seen though that Hobbyboss are releasing a few 1/48 Flankers SU-27 and SU-27 late version, plus SU-27 MKK though I think they mean SU-30 Mkk I saw them listed on hannants and all I was looking for was a resin nose for my Flanker lol, now I want those along with just about every KH release lol. I’ll wait until I have moved house.

Yeah, I have to be more restrained nowadays. There are SO many new releases that I would love to get, but have to pass or hold off. I did pick up another yesterday because it was on clearance at Hobby Lobby, but… Must… Be… Strong…

NKM I think I fall into that Catagory 3 area right now; however, I’m slowly working my way out of it by joining these forums and getting some great ideas!

Stik, you have an awesome collection! Definitely better than the LHS here! I’d love to have more in stash, but everytime I buy a new kit I get that fabled reply from the Spousal Unit, “What are you going to do with it? Let it sit around and get dusty too? (I prefer naturally weathered indoors)”

Helpful?? tip for dealing with the Spousal Unit.

Search through your kit boxes, and find the age warnings. Find one with just the right wording.

I have one box that says “10 years and older”,when Anne, the Staff Sgt SWMBO gets all lathered up over how many kits are sitting around here,I just calmly show her that label and tell her that “I have only had that one for 7 years, so, it has 3 more years to go,that one for only 2, it has 8 to go”,by the 3rd or 4th model, she busts out laughing.

Of course, then she walks away muttering things like “It’s like living with a little boy”, etc, but, to be honest, the way we cut up all the time,it is already pretty much like that for her, anyway.

It’s because of the cellophane wrapper on them. it has some sort of hypnotic affect. " Must buy. Must unwrap"
