Even though I have a few other “irons in the fire,” I realized that I haven’t done a Luftwaffe build since finishing the Ta 152 a while ago, so it’s time.
I’ve built three of the ProModeler Ju 88A-4s, along with DML’s Ju 188A-1 and Mistel 2S. These are all pretty much the same kit, with different details and parts.
This is a couple day’s work (probably 8 to 10 hours) on a couple subassemblies. The PE is Eduard. I’ve also added some structure from solder, and a seat for the ventral gun position (the entry hatch will be open).
The cockpit module halves are just dryfitted.
There are more parts to be added to the gear after painting. The well will be glued into the wing, and the gear legs are just dryfit. The ammo boxes are PE.
I found a great pic of the radio gear, and there were a pair of headphones on a shelf. Seems like a nice little detail to add !
Looking good. Do you build the forward section as a unit and add it later to the rear fuse? I’ve done four so far with five or six in the stash yet. They build up to a pretty nice kit. Can’t wait to see yours done!
Hi Bill, the Eduards doesn’t come with PE seats? Or just using the kit seats and add PE belts instead. I have this kit in the DML boxing. I think Revell or Monogram also have reboxed this kit also. I have pulled it down a couple of times to take a peek at it. There are a lot of parts and don’t care for the multi-piece wing tips too much. The cockpit looks pretty busy right out of the box. It has been awhile since building a Luftwaffe A/C myself since completing the Stuka a year and 1/2 ago. Will be taking notes as you proceed on this build.
darson - I’ll start painting on Monday. More pics then.
boogie bear - yes, I assemble the cockpit as a separate assembly. I also attach the wings to the fuselage halves, rather than the completed fuselage. This makes cleanup and alignment more manageable for me. Another helpful hint is the wingtips: glue the tip halves to the wing top and bottom, rather than adding them as a unit to the completed wings. They are thicker than the wing. Align the exterior flush, then sand the part that joins the other half.
Chuck - the only seat on the PE frets is for the aircraft commander. It’s the bicycle seat next to the pilot. I carved a pad from styrene, which I’ll add after painting. All of the PE parts and instructions are on the page at my site; the link is in my first post of this thread.
In case anyone needs a pic of the radio gear, I found this one online:
You can see where I got the idea for the headphones. [{(-_-)}]
A beauty, Pix! Your attention to detail never ceases to impress me! Not being a big Luftwaffe fan myself, I will be watching with interest as you progess, might even make a convert out of me!
