I’ve started a 1/72 Corsair for a customer, and it will be finished in Fleet Air Arm colors and markings. I’m using Hasegawa’s kit, along with an Aires cockpit and engine.
It’s been a looooong time since I’ve built 1/72, since I prefer the detail available in 1/48. If this cockpit is any indication of what’s available in the smaller scale, I may start building more of these. The price, shelf space, and detail are looking pretty good to me.
This Aires cockpit is resin, with PE belts and instrument panel. I still have to add the PE throttle levers and acetate gunsight glass, but I won’t do this until I’m ready to install this 'pit in the fuselage. I need to cut, carve, and sand the fuselage interior, but it will be worth it.
This scale is a lot of fun, and the Aires pieces rival 1/48 for detail.
Thank you Living Legend, Bud, AKA, ygmodeler, MA, and Dave !
AKA - I find that it’s much the same as my preferred scale, 1/48. The basic skills are all the same, I just need to be more careful painting the details. The smallest PE pieces (throttle levers) are about the same size as the smallest items I’m used to using in 1/48. I just didn’t think that I’d find so much detail in the Aires cockpit.
