New to this forum, I decided ( like alot of people ) to start building again after a long break. I’ve always built in my garage or kitchen table and decided I needed a dedicated shop space. The wife kindly gave up her office for me to use. So I started last weekend on building a shop from scratch. She left me her desk to use and I started building a wall mounted work bench as well. I also built a spray booth ( based on ideas from this forum ). I need one more weekend to finish the construction phase then I can start gathering my tools and supplies into there new home. I attached a link below to my flickr page with some pics. The spray booth is on the desk but I will build a permanent stand next to window soon. I also have some shelves to hang. Should be a great shop when i’m done. The room is a 9’ x 12’ space . The only problem is no ceiling lighting, all my light sources will have to be from wall sockets. Shouldn’t be a problem though.
My 1st house had a decent basement. We moved to the shore, live on a lagoon now so no basement…unless I have the house raised up on pilings…[^o)] Good luck with your war room!
You’ll need good ventilation for the spray booth. It will need to draw very well, so that you don’t get a fine misty overspray on everything around it. Even with that the process of spray painting will create a zone that will be somewhat unsightly. You’ll want to be careful with a finished floor and decent furniture. Things will get a little messy. But full speed ahead. It looks like a great space. Rick.
I am almost ready to move in my tools and supplies. I added a few more progress pics, take a look. It will be nice to get out of the garage and build in a clean room. The stool in the pic is from my wifes beauty salon. I highly recommend one of these for anyone who sits on a stool to work. It has a heavily cushioned saddle type seat and adjusts enough that I can sit at my desk or raise it for the bench. I also plan on shortening the vent hose on the spray booth for better flow. My fan is a 150 cfm, should be enough?
Heh heh…I mock your wee fan…lol…where I work we use blowers for venting out manholes…someone tossed out a “broken” ( wire to the power cord corroded off) blower in the dumster…now I have a nice , repaired 700 cfm exhaust fan for my homemade paint booth. Gotta use tie-downs when I paint a kit…[proplr] BTW…I NEVER smell paint fumes!
Good luck with the room… (my advice) - - keep simplicity in mind while you are getting your feet wet with it. This should allow plenty of adjustment alternatives.
LMAO! My booth isn`t real big…24" deep 24" wide and 20" high…made it out of some discarded Lexan battery shields from a telcom rectifier set up and has a plywood base. Had a real small “fart sucker” fan originally and a 2’ flourescent single tube light.
So here’s the last set of pics of my new shop. I added 9 more pics to the set. Turned out awesome. A place for everything. The paint booth works like a dream, thanks to this forum for the great ideas. I still need to buy some more supplies but that is never ending. Since it’s been a few years since i’ve built i found out all my old enamels were garbage, had to start from scratch there. No big deal, just buy as needed.
I also added a couple of pics of my gaming rig for flight simming. I made the flight panel from a couple of keyboards and some labels from RogerDodger avialtion. Any people here fly the virtual skies as well as build ?
Nice enough ~ !! for Lighting - I just use 3 good Cheap “FLOOR LAMPS”, the kind that have a base at the bottom on a 5’ long pole with 3 Different cone type lamps , and each light can have different size light bulbs or colors too, one of my Floor Lamps has 3 different colored light bulbs in it, and the other 2 floor lamps have different Size light bulbs , and I can move the Floor Lamps around anywhere I want for better lighting and adjust the Cone lamps upwards to bounce light of the ceiling if I want or on my project. The best place to get these FLOOR LAMPS is TARGET Stores or Sears have the better selection and their very inexpensive , some are only 19.95 or up to 40.00 , that way you don’t have to mount anything in your ceiling or drill holes and mess with playing electricians and you can move the FLOOR LAMPS around anywhere you need to for better lighting, I like the 3 Cone style floor lamps the best, easch Cone can be pointed in any direction and with different size light bulbs as well, I have 3 cone style floor lamps and they light up the room perfectly , more than enough light !!!
