I bought a kit from a video game called StarCraft. I know nothing about the game, the “look” of the armored infantry trooper Marine intrigued me. The kit was made by Academy and is from Blizzard Entertainment.
The scale of the kit is 1/30th, but I thought this type of kit could be a good starter kit for kids wanting to get into the hobby. Much like those low-end Gundam kits. My only thought is after seeing the big, honking gun that the Marine comes with as well as a giant snakelike creature with big claw arms, that this game may not be geared towards younger children. Looks like one of those “kill the monster” games.
Neat kit that comes with three marking options for 2 different generic soldiers and one 1st Lt. McMasters.
I’ll have to look for some more of these guys.
Hey Rob,
I have been intrigued by the Starcraft kits but never picked one up… yet. I played Starcraft all the way through the year it came out. The game is an RTS and is one of the best computer games I have ever played. There didn’t seem to be a lot of blood except on a small scale since your point of view is way above the battlefield.
Anyway, I think Academy only made the two kits but could have made DOZENS more, and cooler than the first two! Maybe when the new Starcraft: Ghost first-person game hits the console gaming scene it will revive interest in Starcraft kits. I hope.

Academy actually released 3 of those kits. There was the Terran Marine, Zerg Hydralisk, and the rarer Terran Medic.
You cna pick up the game now in the popular “Battle Chest” for under $30 (also comes with the expansion.) It’s still a very popular game at Lan-Fests, despite being 5 years old. Highly recommended.

fun little kits
great game
I’ve never heard of the medic kit, though
The “B” sprue says “Terran-Marine, Medic, Firebat”, but the “A” sprue only says “Terran-Marine”.
Question: What is a Firebat? Another type of armored trooper?
The Firebat in the game itself is a heavily armored trooper that just happens to carry a massive flamethrower. Very useful.

I’d love to see a Ghost… far less clunky than the marine and firebat
I saw one in a local hobbyshop here in the Philippines and I think it was a zerg hydralisk, and they were being sold for about 200pesos about 4bucks. Fairly cheap.
Holy cow! Someone makes a Hydralisk in 1/30th scale? How tall is it? Can someone give me a good estimate?
I play Warhammer 40k, and one of the races is the Tyranid, and they are pretty much a knock-off of the Zerg from that videogame (which I don’t play).
Anyway, one of the troop types is called Raveners, and they are basically a straight rip-off from Hydralisks. The Warhammer models are terrible, and very expensive. Any info on the size of these things would be really appreciated! Thanks!
I’d say the Hydralisk is about 4-6" tall. I saw one built at a local show. Saw a second Marine, but passed on him.
