SS Botany Bay

I find myself wanting to scratchbuild a Botany Bay. Before I start this projects, is there a current kit offered in 1/1000 scale? I have found some awesome pics of the original studio model, along with some good drawings and my interest is peaked!

Heck, I wouldn’t mind knowing that! It’d be a tiny thing, though. About 4" or so, right? It’d be a great display next to the new PL kits! [:D]

Yeah, that is what I was thinking. It will be a small model for sure but a little longer than 4". I have a nice studio still shot of the Botany in station with the Enterprise.[8D]

Wasn’t the original studio model based off of one of the US nuclear submarine kits? Best bet would be to find a small modern sub kit to scratchbuild one.

No, it does have submarine styling cues but it’s an original wooden model. It only has a couple plastic kit parts and they all appear to be plastic car engine parts. The sail is flat sided and only looks like a sub sail in profile. The original model still exists and is being preserved in unrestored condition.

Woody, got a pic or schematic you can send? I’d love to see it. - Ed

Here is the link to a good set of blueprints.

Alan, Thanks for the link. Very interesting site. They really fleshed out the Botany Bay.
