Squadron Products (Eduard) 1/48 F6F-5

I was told that the Squadron kit was the Eduard Kit. Regardless - really nice kit and probably one the kits where I made the most mistakes in a long time. So… given my issues I decided to try a Flory wash for the fist time since these late war birds are so monochromatic. Anyhow here she is, warts and all - I need to lay off the cabernet when modeling…lol

This is Ens. Robert E. Murray’s mount from VF-29 off the USS Cabot - 10.3 kills

All mucked up with Flory Gray wash

And the final bird. I think I still have a few clear parts to add but here she is after the wash

I bumped the left aeleron decal when it was soaking in microsol… grrrr

For the prop - I primed in white, sprayed the yellow, masked and sprayed the gloss black

Not sure the Flory gray was the right choice, but these late war birds were so clean it’s tough to do any weathering

Turned out great John, I like the panel lines being a lighter color. I think the grey wash was a good choice.

Yeah, the US at the end of the war didn’t really have any imagination when it came to aircraft color, blue or silver, maybe some squadron markings here or there. I guess when your trying to knock out as much off the assembly line as possable, it just doesn’t matter. Spray it one color to protect it from the salt air and give it to the WASP’s to fly away.
BTW speaking of the WASP’s, my 6th grade history teacher was a WASP. She had some incredable storys.

I didn’t know that. I have the Eduard kit in my Sprue Bros wishlist, I’ll have to check out the Squadron kit.

I like the way the grey Flory wash breaks up the dark blue. Also found it neat that you posted the pic of the model all yuckied up with the Flory. I use Flory too, and I should have known better, but whilst scrolling down, for a few seconds I thought that was your final project and found myself thinking so how I am I going to post a comment to John about that? It’s a little over-weathered but I don’t want to say anything. [:-*]

If you had any troubles, don’t worry, it doesn’t show.

It looks great, John. You can’t go wrong with any way you build an F6. It looks awesome.

Nice clean build Keav. I think the grey works. I will probably do something similar with mine. Thanks for the idea.

I’m not familiar with a flory wash, wasn’t quite sure where you were going with that! But it turned out great.

Beautiful looking Hellcat John. Very nicely executed. I’m unfamiliar if the Squadron kit is actually the Eduard but, I’ve built the Eduard kit and it was an absolute dream. Best engineered and detailed kit I’ve built to date.

The gray Flory wash is spot on. Although I built the F6F-3 tri-color, I used the gray Flory wash on the upper dark blue and absolutely loved the effect.

Thank You so much for sharing your tremendous build with us.

Cheers, Joe
