Spruce Goose update- Tail Finished!!

That’s it, I’m TIRED of sanding! Therefore, I shall call the tail of the Spruce Goose good enough! [:D]

Seriously, though, I’m pretty much finished with the tail. If you recall, I had the tailplanes glued on before:

But the way the mounts were on the fuselage, it made the tail/elevator junction rounded, instead of the (correct) sharp edge. So, I cracked off the tailplanes, cut out the raised locators on the fuselage, filled in the hole with sheet styrene, RE-glued the tailplanes, and proceeded to spend the next week and a half puttying, sanding, and repeating. Here she is:

You can still sort of tell where the plastic ends and the putty begins, but it’s not as bad as it was. It actually turned out rather well.

All that’s left is to add a few elevator and rudder tab actuator arms, but that won’t take long at all, and will be relatively simple.

Now, as a parting gift, here’s ANOTHER shot of the wings resting on top-

Next up- CANOPY MASTER!

That’s great! Thanks for keeping the updates coming.

The tail looks really good.

Regards,

Very nice work. I think the tail turned out great.

The H-1 makes the BV-222 look like a piper cub [(-D]

NICE!!! is that the 1/200 kit?

I can see your building the watchamacallit Burt Rutan bird [:D]

Looking good man, that’s a real nice finish. I hear you on the sanding, I’m working on a 130 Herc, and I have been scribing and rescribing then filling, then sanding then rescribing the panel lines again, this makes the details look easy. anyway, looking great keep updating

You sir, are a mad man, mad I say.

Holly Crap that thing is huge for 1/72 scale vac kit. So how are you gona run the wires for the props?

Do you stare at the slow movements of the lava lamp to break the monotony of sanding? Looks good though and just a tiny bit BIG.

He he… Yeah, I got that thing at Cedar Point (spent the whole day in the arcade to get it, too, and probably wasted too much money in the process), and I’m just waitin’ to put it in my bedroom. As soon as it’s built, that is. [:D]

As for the wires, I can run everything through the wings, as they are thicker than some fuselages I’ve worked with. The square opening in front of the wings is the location of an actual hatch on the real Goose, and will hold one AA battery standing vertical. I’ve wired eight motors to a single AA battery before, so I (sorta) know what I’m doing. A small metal tab will be moved over to the top of the battery to complete a circuit starting all the motors. Real simple.

Holy !@#$%^&*() Batman, that’s a lot of plastique. Nice work.
