Spotty/Dotted spray pattern problem?

Hi there,

I seem to be having some trouble with my airbrushing.

The pattern always comes out spotty/dotted. Here are two pictures to show you what I mean. I use Tamiya Acrylics, thinned to about a 50:50 mix. These guys I sprayed at around 15psi, but I get the same effect at 25psi as well. I use a Badger Patriot with a .50 needle. I have no idea how to counter this issue, as spraying this way nothing looks very controlled… Thank you!

Possible clogged tip or damaged tip.Maybe less PSI 10-12.I have gone that low for close in camo.

You may have a burr on the needle. Try dragging it across some cloth and see if it snags, or run your fingernail down it.

Just wondering about some possible causes. How close to the subject are you holding the airbrush? Did the airbrush perform well just prior to this result? What thinner or medium did you use? Lastly, does the paint still appear the same when you are loading the airbrush, has it gotten thicker or seem to have reacted to something? My first guess, holding it too far from the subject.

Don’s point above is exactly right, if the needle has been deformed, it could have a really negative impact on your spray pattern. Best of luck getting it resolved.

I always set my gun up at the compressor as well as flood check the brush. Dry spray could also indicate sort of plugged fluid needle at the tip.

Took it apart and that seems to have fixed it!
