I’ve seen this technique here and talked about here, so I figured I’d ask here. I would like to try but I’m curious as to what kind of sponge to use ( which kind works best)? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
I think most use the scrubbing portion of a dish sponge, not the softer side. Just apply a little paint and wipe most of it off and dab it in the desired local. I too am itching to give it a try.

Doog has done an excellent job with tutorial.
I’m assuming you mean for chipping? I usually use little bits of scouring pads or “green scrubbies”, but when I can find some I sue that kind of foam, usually in a faded yellowish color or dark grey, used for many different things–kind of hard to explain. Anyways, one tip with the chipping–the thicker the paint the better in my opinion. If you use thin paint, it will look like smears and blobs, wheras thick paints, specificalls artists oils, give nice hard edged chipping patterns.
my suggestion is to get some scrap styrene and aload of different sponges ,and try them out you will be amazed at the different results that you get:)
