Hi,

After a bit of advice, i am currently building a Tamiya 1/48 spitfire mk 1 ( great kit) and am at the pre paint stage and i am having a bit of trouble deciding what to do about the 4 .303 mg’s protruding from the gun ports.

In all the pictures i have seen, books i’ve read on this subject i do not recall having seen this configuration before on Battle of Britain Marks of spitfires. Has any one else??

Any help,suggestions or advice appreciated.

From your description I would say that they are flash eliminators. They were only fitted to very early Mk Is. Tamiya certainly include them on their 1/72 scale Spitfire Mk I. In most cases they should be removed.
