Spitfire Mk.IX WIP

[#toast]Hello all,

just thought I’d share how its going with this one. Its the 1/48 Airfix Spitfire Mk.IX. I’ve added a few little details and re-scribed the airframe as the kits lines were too shallow. After many visits by my airbrush I am finally happy with the paint job.[:-,]

I still need to paint the cannon barrells but apart from that shes just about ready for the first gloss coat. Not the easiest kit I’ve ever worked on, but now all the major problems are out of the way I can start to enjoy this build again.

Nice work tango looks like you’ve done some work on the tail there. I assume you painted the leading edge ID stripes on they look excellent. Those usually give me problems for some reason. did you cut away the cockpit door or was it a seperate piece on that kit? I know one kit out there does not have the door molded to the fuselage.

Hey thanks!

Yes, the leading edge stripes were painted, thanks for your kind words. I did cut away the door as I want to pose the cockpit open.

I dropped the elevators and the rudder is from a Hasegawa kit, the problem with this kit is that all the leading and trailing edges are way too thick for this scale. You can really notice it on the wings, but I’m not striving for perfection here, just trying to make the best of the kit.

Looks good Darren. I like the finish.

Thanks Marc[tup]

I’m hoping that the decalsgo on OK after all the time I spent painting this thing![:D]

It’s been a pleasure following your progress on this build, Darren. Your Mk.IX is coming along nicely! [tup]

Thanks Mike.[tup] Glad you like how its going.[:)]
