Revell’s 1/48 kit.

Nice job on a great subject! I built mine while watching the Jimmy Stewart movie. I can almost smell the sand dabs cooking on the aluminum panel!
Great little build! [tup]
I’ve had this kit for some time now but can never seem to get it started. A friend of mine said it goes together really well. How hard was it to get the turned aluminum decals to go down?
Where is all the shading coming from across the top wing? Is that molded into the surface? I’ve got one of these in the stash and it may require more work than I’d like to put in to get the finish to come out uniform. NMF is always such hard work.
But dacopone, the only aluminum is the cowl behind the engine, the rest is aluminum dope. I say build it!
Looking at your model reminded me of something I had always wondered. How did he see where he was going? I mean, he has no front window to see thru, did he keep looking out the side windows all the way over? Man… he must have had a real pain in the neck when it was done.
There was a periscope installed to allow for limited visibility to the front. It projected onto an etched glass screen in the instrument panel if memory serves.
There was a periscope, but he probably didn’t need it because he had a compass, and there wasn’t anything to hit!
I was just reading a book by an SR-71 pilot, who told a story of landing in fog at an unplanned location, like Goose Bay. He got himself down to where he figured the runway was, but he couldn’t see a thing. So his backseat piped up “a little to the right…steady, land!” He was watching the centerline stripe through his downward looking viewfinder.
The turned aluminum decals took a couple of rounds with decal set, and the shading happened by , but I think it simulates doped fabric pretty well. Thnaks guys.
Looks great, will have to get one of those.[tup]
