[:)] I have just got hold of a small audio speaker and remember reading that this can be used to make an oscillatory paint mixer. I appreciate that an AC current is required but beyond that I don’t really know how to go about it. Has anyone done this for themselves? Any tips would be a great help - thanks in advance.
Never heard of this myself but it sounds a little dangerous. You could put a ball bearing in the paint and play some music and it would mix with the “beat” [:D] Might cause bubbles though if you use heavy metal [;)][:o)]
I picked up one of those little badger paint mixers at my lhs a while back. it works great, I can’t imagine how I got along without the thing. Grab one next time you’re out, they’re cheap and they mix the hell out of the paint. Just remember to start and stop it in the paint, don’t try to put it in or take it out while it’s running.
hey simon, i too have a paint mixer i got from my lhs, but i think mine was from micro mark…but its prob the same as maddafingas…and i too dont know how i lived without it…
u might wanna check out woolies and have a look in their utensil section, coz i saw a latte mixer in there and it was almost identical to the one from the lhs, only a 3rd of the price. the only difference is the tip. the mixing tip on mine is a small disc (bout 5c size) with small indents round the outside. some one here might be able to give u a pic as refrence, coz my camera is out of action.
Thanks Tominator I will definitely check Woolies but I was thinking more of a hands off mixer. Something along the lines of gluing a perspex plate to the speaker cone setting up an ac current with enough amplitude to shake a tinlet and leave to its own devices. Ball bearings can be used to increase mechanical agitation. It sounds simple enough it’s the electronics that I am not sure about.
Without reopening “Future Questions” I was wrong again about the One Step, the other Pledge product I saw was Vinyl Magic and this smells very strongly of ammonia too. I will stick with the One Go for the time being but will let you know if the results are unacceptable.[bow]
I also use a latte mixer, with one dead battery to slow it down. I have cut of the mixing tip, since I don’t want my paint to foam!
