What are you guys using on 1/24-25 scale cars? Have built autos way in the past and used color thread or painted copper wire. I think I remember seeing someone saying they used something from radio shack but can’t find that now.
I’ve been using coated wire, like you’d use for electronics. You can probably pick some up at Radio Shack. I don’t remember the size, but you could eyeball it to make it right. Some guys get the white wire, which allows them to color it for whatever suits their fancy.
Most insulated wire is too large. I use bare copper wire, and then paint it. Electronics supply houses no longer carry a good stock of fine wire (so-called magnet wire). Michaels craft stores feature some pretty fine wire in their beading and jewelry area. I also rip transformers off of electronics I junk, and take them apart to get the fine wire inside. Most of it is coated with a varnish, and it paints well.
I have Michaels, AC Moore and hobby Lobby close by and should spend the afternoon exploring what each has.
I just did a quick figuring, and it looks like plug wire should be about ten mils (0.010) in diameter.
I come up with 0.011 for a 7mm plug wire in 1/25 so that sounds good. I get .008 for a 5mm wire.
I also use Michael store or Hobby Lobby fine bare wire which in the right scale.I should know that the Judges told me a few times.
