I am trying to purchase the AM TBM-3D Avenger. Everywhere that I’ve looked is sold out. Does anybody have any leads?
Got one at my LHS… Lemme know if you wanna go that route…
Thanks, Hans, I might just do that if I can’t find an easier (spell that: Lazy Man’s) way. Again, thanks for your reply.
Found loads over here on UK evilbay. Sometimes the shipping isnt half as bad as from the States to here.
Oh yeah, and i jave one in my stash and its mine, i tells ya, Muwahahahahaha
…Guy
Listed as ‘sold out’ on AM’s website, so finding one in a LMS may be the only option.
Guy, I could only find three AM Avengers on UK eBay, and they were all TBM-1s, not -3s. Theere were several of the Italeri boxing, but I’m not sure if the Italeri boxing includes the TBM-3D’s radar and rockets.
Cheers,
Chris.
Listed here, but there’s no indication as to whether it’s in stock.

Is this what you’re looking for?
Don
Thank you, guys, for your help. I was specifically looking for the TBM-3D. My old man was a radioman-gunner-radar operator-bombardier on one in WWII. He’s gone to that great flight deck in the sky now, so I’m not even sure of his old squadron(s), but do know that he flew in the 3D model.
Here is a picture of the box I’m looking for:
Thanks for your input.
I have the Trumpeter 1/32 version of the TBM-3, although I cannot determine if it is the ‘D’ model or not. The documentation is a little sketchy on the technical and historical details. There are markings for two different aircraft, with a little info for each:
- TBM-3, White 2, of VT-51 onboard the USS CVL-30 San Jacinto, summer 1944
- TBM-3, 89, of VC-94 onboard the USS Shamrock Bay, early 1945, painted Glossy Sea Blue overall.
I will never get the time to build this larger scale kit, so if you’re interested, let me know. I’m not sure about the ‘D’ model, but maybe you will already know, or I can check the kit’s physical features. The Trumpeter kit number is 02234. I will also check my LHS for the one you mentioned and have them hold it if I see it…just in case you want it.
The ‘D3’ ia easy to tell from other Avengers. It’s got a radome sticking out of the leading edge of the starboard wing. Other Avengers haven’t.
My Italeri TBM re=pop is in a particularly inaccesible part of the stash. Maybe someone could check to see if it includes the relevant parts. If it does, problem solved!
Cheers,
Chris.
Looks to me like you could invert the radome from either the Hellcat or Corsair night fighters and it would do a pretty good impression of the TBM-3D’s radome… Add a scratch-built radar antennae under each wing and your -1 becomes a -3D… From what I can tell in my references, the external diffences are limited to the radar… The major difference between the two outside of that is the -3 is an up-engined -1…
Thank you, Baron Von Hammer (Enemy Ace), but now you are talking work!
Hi,
I sent you an email in regards to one I have available
Max Bryant
Roll Models is showing a TBM-3D on their searchable catalog. I don’t know though if that means they have it in stock.
PM’dya last night. [:D]
Cheers,
Max
Isn’t Italeri/AM Avenger a 1 not a 3. Anyway I just opened the box and checked and it does have the randome, as a 1D is displayed in the painting and decalling section.
