SOS Tamiya weathering powder dissapearing!

after applying tamiya weathering powder to a model i attempted to seal the effect with flat coat (and tried again on another model with Future Floor Wash) only to find that the weatehring effect was completely dissolved (?) by the clearcoat!! disaster!.

how do i seal the weathered effect? This is on a model that will be highly handled so i need to seal the model. (and also would like to use oil efects on panel lines - which is impossible without selaing the powder finish first…)

Please help!

I usually apply Tamiya powders after the clear coat because of that reason. As far as them ‘coming off’, I think you’ll be OK. They tack well to the paint (better than anything else) and I think you’ll find they are hard to remove once they set. Give it a shot…[;)]

Ok, will give it a try.

thanks for the reply.

hey, it’s dissapearing… anyone else care to contribute ?

Why is it disappearing? Are you putting it on VERY last?

You don’t specify what type of matte coat you are using. Tamiya powders are nothing more than ground/condensed dried acrylic paint. If you are using anything with laquer, (Testors Dull Cote?)…there is the problem. Future, being an acrylic clear coat will gloss out any pigment that you apply directly to any flat paint surface. If you thin the powders with water and apply them as point washes, different story…

I use Polyscale flat coat. It is water soluable and gives a superior matte finish. It will not “eat” your pigments when applied over them. By the way, pigments drybrushed directly into matte paints should not need to be “sealed”, they are not going anywhere, as they work right into the basecoat:

I personally don’t like the Tamiya products, a little too oily for my taste. Do yourself a favor and pick up pigments from MIG products…you will love 'em

I think the Tamiya powder product was a dissaster. It is best to apply it last.

I never even consider using them by just looking at them.
For cheap weathering effect try asking your wife/girl friend if they have eye shadow that they dont use. Preferable the color you want without the glitter.

I notice that they have a good adhesive effect that after a few days you wont be able to take it off, even when you wash and scrub it with diswasher liquid, they just wont come off easily.
