Some Commission Resto Work
Just to let my modeling friends know I am indeed still alive and kicking, I’m sharing some photos of a recent commission restoration work for a gentleman who wanted them brought back from the dead. These Convair B-58 Hustlers were approximately 9” long, and made from solid resin. They’re around 40 or so years old, and as you can see, they have been beat up pretty badly.

First up, the wingtip gets fixed:

Several of the jet engines were broken off or missing altogether. It was necessary to make resin copies from some of the existing broken ones.
Broken engines are glued up to a “tree”:

Then glued to a jig which suspends the engine rig halfway into a mold box:

Now the bottom half of the mold is poured. This is MicroMark’s one-to-one RTV silicone rubber:

Here’s the top and bottom mold halves:

…and after the resin has been cast and hardened:

More than enough engines for the job!

Engine/mount repair:

Engines affixed and plane wet sanded:

…primed:

…and painted:

Hustler #2 is right behind:

Decals were drawn up in Adobe Illustrator, then printed on my laser printer. Only the “stars & bars” insignias were pulled from my extra decal stash, all others had to be drawn:

Decals applied, then the planes received a clearcoat sealer. The stands were taken from some unbuilt Lindberg kits I have in the stash, and modified to accommodate the B-58’s. Done!

Thanks for looking!
