Anyone have any pictures of the anti-slip tape applied inside the bird?? I see the ones on heavyarty’s page, is that the same pattern always applied??? Most of the pictures i found of the inside of birds don’t even have the tape. Is it applied by the crew?
Also, specifically for heavyarty…
What did you use for the ammunition chute’s for your AH? i’m looking to get that same look but can’t find anything. And what about the shell ejection chute??

Here is a pic showing the anti-slip tape.
It is usually applied by the crew and there is no set pattern, I have seen it running the other direction (across the cabin) as well. As you said, not all aircraft have it either. I have also seen some with thick, black anti-slip sand paint similar to what is on AFVs.
For the ammo feed chutes, I contacted Cobra Company and bought just the 7.62mm ammo feed chutes out of their UH-1N Weapons Set. Chris is great about selling individual parts from his sets, just send him an email.
For the spent shell ejection coils, I used some pieces from an old Star Wars Speeder Bike model. They are coiled hoses from it. You can accomplish the same look by wrapping thread or fine wire around tubing or heavy wire that has been bent into shape.

Looks pretty good. One thing though, the pilots’ seats and supports are all flat black as well. Basically, everything foreward of the raised step for the cockpit is flat black. It is this way so that there is no interfereance with the pilots’ Night Vision Goggles (NVGs). Light colors like grey show up very bright and can also reflect light back at you. Not good when you are trying to see the outside surroundings and keep from flying into things.

Heck one bird even had a sheep skin type cushion in there. Not exactly sure which regulation that violates but Im sure theres a 670-1 for helo interiors…[:D]
Yes, some have OD Green or gray seat cusion covers. I was mainly refering to the actual seats and supports. They are all flat black, as is everything forward of the step up to the cockpit, including the interior walls of the fuselage. It is all flat black for the above stated reasons.
It is not tape, it is non-skid paint. It starts out black on grey, but often gets spray painted over due to maintenance.
Just a quick note on the seat cushion issue. The sheep skin seat cushions are an approved item. I’m told by our supply guy that it depends on which NSN (national stock number) the mech doing the part request uses and what the supply depot has on hand when the order is recieved. Only ones like that I have seen on our birds are black. Most of our crewchiefs don’t like them because they hold dirt and moisture more than the other ones do. As a pilot, I still wish they could come up with one that keeps its thickness (read padding quality) longer than 6 months before you feel like you are sitting on the bare armor panel.
The non-skid comes standard from the factory and is gray on gray. Some crewchiefs like to paint the stripes black. All I did on mine was paint the edge by the cargo door with non-skid and then went over it with a good coat of dull black.
Hey privateer-
The padding in the ‘sheepskin’ cushions is much more durable than the cloth ones. The ‘sheepskin’ is the A model cushion, just persuade the crewchief ( favorite beverage)to order new ones using the A model NSN.

BTW I just received the Eduard PE set for Huey armament and there are 2 sets of ammo-feed chutes for M-134 and one for the granade launcher. They are just perfect!!! I’ll try to post some pics of them on this week.

I noticed the pilot doors on the MH-60’s are off in alot of the pictures i’ve been seeing…anyone ahve any info about this??

The doors are left off by many Spec Ops and SAR crews for better field of view and easy exit in a crash. It is pretty much up to the crew to remove them or not.

This is becoming a common practice. Many units supporting Katrina relief efforts did the same thing. Units in OIF are doing this as well. I have my own opinions about this practice but I will not air then here, suffice it to say that 601’s doors WILL stay on.
I think that A’s up to about 1980 had tape on them. I am not sure about this but I will see if I can dig that up.

Yep, guys flying the Kiowa Warriors around my neighborhood like to fly with their “knees in the breeze.” Quite a contrast, dark OD bird with a bright sand colored jump suit. Good idea for a project, if you could only find helicopter crew figures!!
