Some questions about 1:700/1:400/1:350 model ships

Hi

I have a few questions:

  • how many parts does a 1:700/400/350 LCS, Battleship or Aircraft carrier have

  • what do you think is the easiest scale

-what do you think are the best companies

Very broad question,every kit is different according to the manufacturer,who it was made for,and so forth.

Trumpeter makes some nice ships,as does Tamiya.Dragon kits are somewhat complicated and instructions not clear.

If you are a beginner,and want to do battleships,I would recommend some of the older Tamiya kits,like the original Yamato,Bismarck,and Prince of Wales in 1/350 or 1/700

1/700 is small but if your eyes and fingers are nimble a 1/700 battleship or carrier isn’t too bad.

I would urge you to post this question in the “ships” forum- you are likely to get a lot more answers, and better ones.

1:350 kits have a lot more parts than the smaller ones. Kits of larger vessels will have several hundred parts- especially Trumpeter who tends to make a subassembly out of parts other mfgs would cast as single part.

The number of parts tends to make this scale a bit more difficult, but it depends on how comfortable you are handling really small parts (as in 1:700).

Most of the companies putting out ship kits today are pretty good. Even Zvezda has come a long ways and their latest kits are great. Tamiya and Trumpeter have always been good. Revell of Germany has limited offerings, but their kits are great. Their WW1 cruiser Emden is particularly nice.
